Licensed Practical Nurse

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serves as a Practical Nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
• Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.
• Complete assigned patient care based on the patients’ conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information.
• Observe, identify and respond to the patient’s needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education.
• Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.
• Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
• Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient’s condition before, during, and following the procedure.
• Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice.
• Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare delivery, education of patients and their families and employee satisfaction.
• Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
• Provides individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative healthcare and health maintenance.
• Recognizes and responds to emergencies and performs basic life support measures.
• Adheres to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic technique.
• Performs central sterile supply duties.
• Ensures all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift.
• Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.
• Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs.
• Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.
• Prepares and submits administrative reports.
• Participates in training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment.
• Establishes and maintains appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with co-workers, families, peers, and other team members.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Certificate. Must have successfully completed all education and training requirements leading to and graduated from an accredited national, state or military equivalent school for Practical Nursing. Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
• Experience performing care and treatment of patients; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment; properly administering oral and parenteral medications; conducting paraprofessional portions of physical examinations; or assisting in medical treatment of patients in accordance with established procedures and protocols, within the LPN scope of practice. Shall have practiced as an LPN performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months. Knowledge of DOD regulations regarding physical exam requirements for Airborne, HALO, SF, Flight, PJ and special schools physicals. Medical consults and treatment for pre and post-deployment health surveys, as well as a full understanding of medical issues surrounding SOF personnel.
• Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse. Must have and maintain
• throughout course of contract, a current, active, valid, unrestricted license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from a US jurisdiction
• Knowledge in established procedures, protocols and scope of practice, must have understanding of and ability to correctly utilize and/or apply; medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, clinical procedures, patient care; emergency medical treatment to include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aseptic technique, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding medications, vaccination procedures, mechanisms of anaphylaxis and shock and their treatment; prescription drugs and their administration; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment, risk management, medical.
• Must be a US Citizen.
