Portland Art Museum is Hiring a Gift Shop Sales Associate (Part-Time) Near Portland, OR

Job Description

The Portland Art Museum (referred to as Museum) invites applications for the position of Gift Shop Sales Associate. The Gift Shop Sales Associate assists shop customers with merchandise information and purchases. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcomes and assists customers with merchandise information and purchases
  • Promotes an exceptional customer experience that incorporates the Museum’s ongoing visitor engagement and equity and inclusion work. Centers welcoming all regardless of race, gender or physical barriers
  • Suggests and sells Museum memberships
  • Pulls orders and assists with packaging and mailing of ecommerce sales
  • Operates the electronic cash register and reconciles the cash drawer
  • Creates and maintains shop displays
  • Helps ticket merchandise
  • Rotate stock and fill in from back stock
  • Notify management of high demand items for replenishment
  • Have knowledge of the museum’s current exhibits and how they relate to merchandise
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Interact with customers in a proactive and welcoming manner, provide excellent customer service to all Museum constituents to promote sales
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and perform duties effectively under time constraints
  • Skilled in multitasking
  • Adhere to the Museum Gift Shop dress code of business casual attire
  • Visual display experience is a plus

Education, Formal & Informal Experience, Training Required, Certification, Etc.

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • 6 months retail sales experience or customer services. Boutique or specialty store experience is a plus

Job Conditions

  • Non-exempt/Part-time
  • Schedule/Hours: Thursday through Sunday during the Museum’s operating hours. Part-time hours range from 19-29 per week (Operating Hours: Thursday to Friday from 9:45am to 8:30pm and Saturday to Sunday from 9:45am to 6:30pm) 
  • Onsite/Not Remote
  • Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts 
  • Extensive computer work

Physical Activities

  • Occasional lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 lbs
  • Continuously stand, walk, bend, use of fingers and handling of objects
  • Continuously reaching and grasping
  • Frequently communicating with visitors and colleagues
  • Continuous repetitive motion of hands/wrists

Benefits
  • This role is a non-exempt/hourly and part-time
  • Budgeted compensation is within pay grade A ($15.45 min - $16.13 mid - $16.78 max), depending on experience
  • Shift differentials, for hourly/non-exempt staff, for hours worked onsite within:
    • Evening hours (6:00 pm-12:00 am) will be paid an additional $1.00 per hour
    • Night hours (12:01 am-6:00 am) will be paid an additional $2.00 per hour
  • Paid time off: 6 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, vacation, sick, and bereavement leave
  • Transportation benefits: TriMet / C-Tran / parking reimbursement account or bike-to-work enrollment
  • Museum admission & lectures, programs, and gift shop discounts
  • R.E.A.P (Reciprocal Employee Attraction Pass), providing free general admission to local destinations
