Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Cornerstone Program Manager, the Bilingual Parent Educator will recruit and maintain a caseload of twenty-five (25) families after completion of 1st year. Conduct visits to participating families to provide support, parenting education that will improve the health of prenatal mother and child, parent knowledge and parenting practice regarding child development, early detection of developmental delays, parent-child interactions, etc. utilizing the Parents as Teachers model.

Qualifications


  • Requires an Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Education, Social Work, or related field; bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Requires at least two (2) years of related work in an Early Childhood environment and/or working with Spanish speaking or bilingual families with children.

  • Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish.

Supervisory Responsibilities

There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Become certified in Parents As Teachers curriculum and obtain Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement through AimHiTN. 

  2. Build relationships with parents and children through personal visits and group meetings.

  3. Recruit families for participation in the program, to maintain a caseload of at least twenty-five (25) families after the first year.

  4. Conduct the required number of personal visits with participating families to provide health, development and parenting information; develop plans for each visit using the Personal Visit Record, ensuring that families receive consistent research-based information.

  5. Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations that provide services to the bilingual community.

  6. Gather information on families including conducting pre/post test information and administer required screenings/assessments.

  7. Participate in orientation and pre-service training, weekly role-play, and other staff development activities. Earn competency based professional development hours related to the five (5) Parents as Teachers core competency areas.

  8. Execute the Parents as Teachers curriculum with the program participants/clients.

  9. Keep Program Manager abreast of child/family progress and family issues and concerns as they arise. 

  10. Maintain ongoing communication; review information based upon own caseload with Program Manager on a regular basis.

  11. Participate in the planning and execution of group parent meetings, encourage parents to participate in parent group meetings, and other community service projects.

  12. Support with translation of verbal and written communication as needed.

  13. Complete and submit required reports, schedules, and other documentation as required in a timely manner.

  14. Maintain up to date records/documentation of the visits that contribute to the annual program reports.

  15. Track family health needs and access to preventive care; serve as a liaison with program partners.

  16. Attend parent meetings and staff meetings and participate in all program activities. 

  17. Comply with the established policies and procedures of the agency and program.

  18. Contribute to team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Work in a non-smoking environment.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in Child Development, Early Childhood, and Social Work.

  • Record keeping skills to maintain legible, accurate, up-to-date files so that information is readily researched and retrieved.

  • Possess the ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families with conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.

  • Ability to perceive and deal with sensitive issues while maintaining confidentiality and objectivity.

  • CPR Certification preferred.

Maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record with appropriate level of insurance.
