PORT OF SAN DIEGO is Hiring an Internal Communications Representative (Marketing/Public Relations Representative) Near San Diego, CA

The Port of San Diego is seeking a creative and skilled internal communications professional to join our fun, hard-working Marketing and Communications team. Under the direction of the Director, Marketing & Communications, the Internal Communications Representative will develop and implement internal communications strategies to ensure Port staff are informed early and often about organizational updates, events and other important information.
 
The ideal candidate will possess a strong skillset in managing content, as part of the internal communications program, by developing and maintaining strategic internal communications plans and content calendars to ensure all Port staff are continually informed of organizational communication and updates. This role will actively participate and manage strategy sessions on how to continually improve the state of internal communications at the Port and create informative content for the Port’s internal communications channels including the intranet, weekly employee newsletter, poster frame network, and other channels as determined.
 
The Internal Communications Representative position requires a proactive and motivated individual with strong project management; stellar creative writing skills; good interpersonal skills; creative and critical thinking skills; and the ability to multi-task across several projects in a diverse Port environment. The position will constantly collaborate with all internal departments at the Port, as well as with some external partners, organizations, and the public.
 
The Internal Communications Representative will be the main point of contact for Port staff to go to for the development of internal communications plans and content. This position will recommend strategies on how and when to communicate information to Port staff, as well as execute the communications.
 
Some of the day-to-day duties and responsibilities for this position include:
  • Actively participate and manage strategy sessions on how to continually improve the state of internal communications at the Port.
  • Create and manage content for the Port’s internal communications channels including the intranet, weekly employee newsletter, poster frame network, and other channels as determined.
  • Develop and manage a calendar for internal communications content across the Port’s various internal communications channels. 
  • Work with all departments in the Port to develop strategic communications plans to rollout new initiatives and inform staff about events, projects, programs, and other important information.
  • Lead regular meetings with the Internal Communications Working Group to facilitate collaboration and garner new ideas for the Port’s internal communications initiatives. 
 
Desirable skills and knowledge candidates should possess:  
 
  • Critical strategic thinking skills, excellent relationship management skills with a proven ability to create and maintain long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creative and confident writer with high attention to detail in correct spelling and punctuation. 
  • Knowledge of best practices for internal communications for organizations.
  • Creative thinker, articulate and persuasive, and able to creatively communicate operational initiatives and outcomes to a broad range to stakeholders.
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced innovative environments, adept at fostering collaborations and forging connections among diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite of tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel). 
  • Exceptional creative eye, with the ability to create content that tells a compelling and engaging story, while effectively meeting objectives and driving awareness.
  • Experience in designing presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint, including layouts, transitions, and animations. 
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, while handling shifting priorities in a positive manner.
  • Work independently and cooperatively on multiple projects simultaneously, consistently meeting deadlines while actively communicating via department project management platforms.
  • Communicate consistently, professionally and enthusiastically with supervisors, department members and the entire organization.
