Poettker Construction Company is Hiring an Estimator Near Breese, IL

About the Position

The Estimator is responsible for handling preconstruction and estimating services. Prepare complete estimates for assigned project(s) of varying size and complexity.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
  • Coordinate total estimating effort relevant to bid / project as assigned.
  • Advise and assist in conventional bids to owners.
  • Interface with owner, Architect/Engineer (A/E), and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  • Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, etc.
  • May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures.
  • Perform site surveys and investigations.
  • Prepare estimates for work, which can be completed with company’s labor, material, and equipment.
  • Request, receive, and evaluate subcontractor and major material quotations.
  • Prepare estimate summary for all or portion of total estimate as directed.
  • Prepare conceptual estimates using schematic, conceptual and / or narrative information.
  • Advise and assist in conventional bids to owners.
  • Report to Director of Estimating the risks and special considerations of a project for profit evaluation.
  • Review successful estimates with project management prior to job commencement for successful project transition.
  • Communicate with field operations to seek cost-effective methods of construction used by superintendents and project managers for inclusion in future estimating projects.
  • Work with Senior and Lead Estimators to assist with larger projects by reviewing assigned divisions of the project(s).

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field preferred. Three (3) or more years of progressive construction estimating and/or field experience desired.
