ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation
- Installs and maintains local area network hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, network nodes, terminals, and wiring
- Evaluates local area network hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations
- Coordinates installation of hardware and software by others
- Provides support to and trains users in local area network administration and usage
- Monitors and maintains network stability
- Communicates and coordinates network schedule, backups, and downtime to users
- Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware, software, and telecommunications services
- Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts
- Coordinates work with other departments within the Company
- Assists other information systems (IS) personnel with project and problem resolution
- Provides network availability to entire Company for continued ability to succeed in marketplace
- Knowledge of data communications principals and interfaces
- Knowledge of telecommunications principals and practice
- Ability to use the protocol analyzer to troubleshoot and examine network protocols
- Ability to use Network Monitoring tools to gather Network statistics and interpret into meaningful information
- Ability to identify and evaluate Network needs to justify and recommend solutions
- Ability to identify and communicate network impact possible due to proposed or planned application installation or network operating system changes
- Provide analysis, planning, and design for Network projects
- Ability to oversee and implement all phases of project management from site planning, to installation, migration, and implementation
- Ability to provide technical assistance on project planning for IS co-workers
- Ability to effectively handle many concurrent assignments with minimum guidelines pertaining to objectives, priorities or technical approach
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

- Stages and installs all network equipment including routers, HUBs and switches, and cabling requirements for network connectivity of servers, routers, and switches
- Networks equipment software configuration such as switch and router IOS configurations
- Troubleshoots routine LAN/WAN customer issues using required sophisticated troubleshooting tools such as Network Protocol Analyzers
- Provides sound technical design options and recommendations to customers on small to medium projects
- Tests network components and applications for reliability, functionality, and throughput
- Knowledge and experience with the PNM computer network environment
- Knowledge of data communication principals and interfaces
- Knowledge of telecommunication principals and practices
- Working knowledge of Ethernet 802.3 specifications
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, SNMP for management of network devices, and OSI reference model with emphasis on the bottom three layers
- Knowledge of LAN topologies such as switching, fast Ethernet, and VLANS
