PMC is Hiring an ARTnews: Reporter Near New York, NY
ARTnews, the world’s leading authority in art journalism, seeks a reporter. Reporting to the Digital Director, this reporter will be responsible for an average of 1-2 online articles per day, as well as several longer features per month, and will also be expected to contribute to the print publications Art in America and ARTnews and our email newsletters.
The ideal applicant will be able to juggle multiple aspects of the visual art beat and art market beat, spanning from profiles , features, breaking news, and broader trend pieces. This person should know how to develop sources and be driven by a desire to break high-impact news and engaging exclusives.
The ideal applicant will also have a firm grasp on artists experimenting with new technologies like algorithmic art, generative A.I., and the blockchain, and on the companies these artists work with. They should understand and be able to think creatively about how the spheres of art and technology are becoming increasingly intertwined, and how that affects the future of visual culture and creative production. However, if a candidate has a compelling case for an alternative approach to arts coverage, we’d be open to hearing it.
Ideally, This role would be based in our New York or London offices.
Responsibilities:
- Pitch, report, and write stories at the intersection of tech and art, balancing news with original features reporting and longer enterprise stories.
- Maintain your editorial slate and lineup with realistic deadlines and publish dates.
- Collaborate with other staff of ARTnews on reporting projects that further our overall coverage.
- Collaborate with video and social media editors as needed to develop ways of telling stories on other platforms.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in journalism, ideally covering art/culture or tech/AI. Applicants from outside these fields are encouraged to apply if they have excellent, dogged reporting skills and an ability to learn a beat quickly.
- Knowledge of art and the art world.
- An ability to work quickly and accurately at digital speed; an ability to work collaboratively.
- A clear, engaging, jargon-free writing style.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices.
- Experience using content management systems and social media platforms.

Salary: $65,000
Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. PMC is committed to the health and wellness of our employees. As part of our company-wide rollout of PMC’s paid healthcare plan, effective for this role July 1, 2023, the company will pay 100% of the monthly health, dental and vision plan premiums for the employee and their family.Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
