General Description

The Recovery Center Specialist provides services designed to improve and enhance clients’ levels of independence in activities of daily living, social/recreational skills, problem-solving, personal health/wellness, and employment-related activities. The person filling this role is expected to work M-F, 8am-4pm, with the flexibility of being available during evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for assessing and evaluating the physical, psychiatric, vocational, social, and situational needs of person served and engaging person served and treatment team members
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation plans; work and communicate with other concerned professionals (from Places for People and other agencies) in order to coordinate services that focus on rehabilitation, wellness, and vocational/academic pursuits
  • Complete assigned case records and report service activities accurately, comprehensively, and within required standards outlined per agency standards
  • Communicate across teams regarding any treatment concerns or any progress toward the Recovery Center goals
  • Intervene in crisis situations and deescalate volatile situations
  • Develop and supervise activities that address the needs of special populations such as dually diagnosed person served with substance abuse/mental illness, homeless/mental illness, developmental disabilities/mental illness
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled activities at the Recovery Center focused on the following areas: personal enrichment, health and wellness, coping skills, social skills building, prevocational and academic activities, and recreational/leisure activities
  • Transport person served on out trips and other activities
  • Assists the supervisor in promoting and supporting the person served with self-help, empowerment, and advocacy related activities
  • Required to work outside regular office hours (including some evenings, weekends, holidays, and the entire annual overnight trip) to provide support, leadership, and appropriate crisis intervention
  • Light janitorial duties to contribute to the upkeep to organizational, maintenance, physical and general environment of the Recovery Center
  • Completes annual training requirements as outlined by agency requirements and supervisor
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalent and four years of relevant experience in mental health and/or substance abuse OR
  • BSW or Bachelor’s degree in a social services field
  • Co-occurring/Substance Abuse Certification preferred
  • Med Tech Training, First Aid & CPR certification

Physical Requirements: Stand, bend, kneel, lift (20-30 lbs); navigate steps or use appropriate accommodations; drive and sit for hours at a time.
