Pison is Hiring a Principal Investigator Near Boston, MA

Job Summary:

You will be an experienced contributor leading the capture and execution of research and development (R&D)-focused contracts for Pison’s Government Business Development unit. You will uncover opportunities, propose, capture, and manage the execution of R&D contracts and agreements from the Department of Defense and other federal agencies. You will coordinate resourcing within Pison and from developer partners and subcontractors. These contracts are vital for advancing Pison’s electroneurography (ENG)-based gesture control technology for integration to government acquisition programs of record for human-machine teaming, situational awareness, night vision devices, and augmented reality for dismounted operators.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May recruit, interview, and/or train new program management and technical staff as needed to execute awarded programs. Future supervisory opportunity contingent on further research team growth.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Identify Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), government grants, or similar contract or agreement opportunities that align with Pison’s technology and product roadmaps.

Shape and identify other opportunities from BAAs, non-public sources, consortiums, and prime contractors.

Understand how to advance and grow business with sponsors and accelerate technical and business development aligned to government acquisition programs

Lead the capture of R&D contract opportunities by organizing and writing innovative proposals with high probability of winning.

Quickly generate complex written documents, to include proposals, task statements of work, draft government letters of support or memoranda of understanding, and more.

Ensure excellent management of subcontractors to ensure effective and efficient performance.

Perform effective cost/schedule/performance risk management of current and proposed efforts, and convey those analyses to company executives.

Establish and maintain an R&D proposal execution gameplan, which must identify which agencies will open bidding and when, and which ones Pison should propose for.

Identify potential partnerships with government agencies, labs, and academic institutions that may meaningfully advance our technology or the use case for ENG-based gesture control.

Serve as the Principal Investigator on R&D contracts and agreements by being responsible for the management and integrity of the design, conduct, and reporting of the research project and for managing, monitoring, and ensuring the integrity of any collaborative relationships.

Work closely with Pison’s Product and Engineering units by communicating the needs of customers to help ensure we build the most suitable and best solutions.

Provide superb communication with clarity, with exceptional verbal and written skills for engaging at all levels, from individual contributors up to CEOs.

Collaborate and cooperate gainfully with Pison’s other Principal Investigator(s) and all members of the Business team.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong ability to fill and maintain a pipeline of opportunities in an organized manner.

Professional-level written communication skills, with ability to translate complex technical plans into elegant and easily understood winning proposal materials.

Excellent verbal communication skills, enabling the effective and confident explanation of project plans and progress to company leaders and team members.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capability to proactively resolve conflicting project challenges.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to function well in a high-paced and complex environment.

Proficient with Google workspace, Microsoft Office, and related productivity software.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related STEM field; advanced degree(s) are highly desired. 

Multi-year track record of serving as a business development lead, primary technical writer, or Principal Investigator of winning contracts.

Experience winning and leading programs related to one or more of the following areas: human-machine teaming, situational awareness, ATAK, head-worn interfaces, or human factors for dismounted operators. 

Current project management credentials or certification preferred but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 

Able to travel 1 week per month to the corporate office in Boston or customer locations throughout the United States.

Work Location:

Highly desired for the candidate to reside in the Boston area and thus be able to work out of the Pison office in downtown Boston up to three days per week to ensure effective cross-functional and executive-level collaboration. Alternatively, the candidate may reside in the Washington DC or Northern Virginia area, to facilitate routine interaction with US Government customers and be able to easily and routinely travel to the Boston home office.
