Overview

Job Summary

The Lead Line Operator is responsible for training new Line Operator Trainees and the continued training and performance evaluation of existing Line Operators in all aspects of their job. This training includes paperwork, production methods, quality assurance expectations, and plant operations, continuous improvement, and safety. Performs work with a positive attitude and instills this attitude through ongoing training and teamwork by living and instilling corporate Pioneer values into the Line Operator team.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all duties as outlined in the Line Operator job description.
  • Accountable for evaluating, disciplining, and motivating the Line Operator team and works in conjunction with the plant Supervisors during Line related staffing decisions and discipline.
  • Responsible for completing written reviews on each Line Operator on their respective shift and verbally discussing the results with supervision and employee in depth. Review must be approved by the Department Supervisor before talking with employee.
  • Works closely with production Team Leaders and Supervisors on coordinating scheduled customer products to meet or exceed required production schedules.
  • Responsible for Line Operator staffing adjustments when performing training duties.
  • Responsible for communicating established business goals and metrics to the Line Operator team.
  • Instructs, trains and coaches Line Operators, and Line Op Trainees in the proper techniques, procedures, and work habits to assure consistent quality production.
  • Responsible for providing all necessary training documents for Line Operators and Trainees including administration of Line Operator tests.
  • Takes the initiative to correct a process or tooling related problem, or halt production until the proper personnel can be notified for corrective action.
  • Administers the policies of the Company as established in the handbook regarding supervision of employees.
  • Recognizes operating irregularities, machine and equipment malfunctions, and unsafe working conditions or work-related practices and notifies Department Supervisor. Is responsible for their work team’s compliance with Pioneer safety policies.
  • Works consistently to minimize scrap and rework. Assures that procedures are followed, and rework parts are processed using only documented methods that have been approved by Customer Service and the Quality Assurance Departments.
  • Must be proficient in operating inspection equipment such as micrometers, thickness testers, gauges and any other equipment necessary to monitor product quality. Must actively participate in training and coaching team members in operations and calibration of inspection equipment.
  • Must keep a neat, clean, professional appearance.
  • Performs other miscellaneous job duties and related functions, as directed by the Production Manager or Department Supervisor.
  • Practices and promotes good housekeeping by example.
  • Must be available for alternate and overtime shift schedules as required.
  • Adheres to and trains team members on policies and procedures set forth in QS-9000 Quality System.
  • Must be able to identify and explain problems with customer product in the raw state and notify supervisor, such as, excessive oil, deep and blind holes, areas that may air pocket, corrosion, galvanic, etc.
  • Communicate with other Line Operators or Trainees on any needed information to produce the customer’s product such as alloys, needs more than usual rinsing, blind holes, First articles, P-PAP, etc.
  • Questions about the reasoning behind the operators’ operating methods. Use your experience as a guide for procedures. Relay all information that can make the operator more effective.
  • Leads Tank Maintenance Teams on a rotating schedule.
  • Creates procedures and or work instructions in an effort for continuous improvement on the line.
  • Address all corrective actions addressed to the line or Line Operator
  • Fully understands all functions of equipment needed to produce the product, such as rectifiers, pumps, chillers, computers, cranes, etc. When possible, assist in troubleshooting in these areas.

Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards

  • Sharp parts, sharp tooling, heavy carts, occasional hot and cold temperature and humidity levels, heat from ovens, moderate noise levels, limited hand and air tool use, compressed air (must use hearing protection).
  • Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to differentiate between color variances.
  • Potential splash exposure near process lines.
  • Various chemicals are used in the process.

Education/Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • 1 to 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Prior experience as a line operator.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
