Job Summary

Review architectural and structural drawings, interpret project scope documents, and apply basic engineering, math and architectural principles to generate shop and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD software. Assist in the design of building envelopes, fenestration, and other interior and exterior architectural elements including but not limited to unitized curtain walls, entrances, punched windows, coping and interior partitions of basic to moderate complexity. Review and redline drawings as well as revise redlined drawings and support Production Control and Shop personnel during the manufacturing of designed assemblies and components.

Duties & Responsibilities

Drafting

  • Reads and interprets project specifications, architectural and structural drawings, bid documents, and other project documentation. Applies information to project assignments.
  • Applies basic engineering and architectural principles to different types of structures (e.g., poured concrete, steel, etc.).
  • Calculates dimensions using trigonometry and basic math principles (e.g., fractions, decimals etc.) as required.
  • Leverages project team and direct supervisor to identify technical issues and provide solutions and/or direction.
  • Completes designs of basic to moderate complexity including assemblies and components using CAD software.
  • Applies company and industry standards and procedures to assigned work.

Shop and Fabrication Drawings

  • Generates and checks shop drawings (embeds, elevations, plans, sections, and details) with some guidance.
  • Generates and checks fabrication drawings of assemblies and components.
  • Revises redlined drawings.

Software

  • Utilizes RMS, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Revit, as required.

Problem Solving

  • Supports Production Control and Shop personnel during manufacturing of designed assemblies and components and research manufacturing-related issues per direct supervisor's instruction.
  • Engages project team to identify and resolve technical, design, and drafting issues of basic to moderate complexity.
  • Applies previous experience and knowledge to new situations.
  • Recognizes skill limitations and consults others where appropriate.

Other

  • Seeks opportunities for professional development and learning applicable to current and future roles.
  • Mentors less skilled employees.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Minimal travel required.
  • May be required to drive company and/or personal vehicle to conduct company business.

Job Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Design and Drafting (or related field) and 3 years’ drafting experience OR a minimum of 5 years’ drafting experience.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural and construction specifications and bid documents.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural and structural drawings i.e., dimensions, symbols, types of lines, scales and views, including elevations, plans and sections.
  • Familiar with elements and symbols contained in blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Familiar with basic engineering and architectural principles related to different types of structures (e.g., poured concrete, steel etc.).
  • Experience performing calculations involving basic math and trigonometry.
  • Expresses thoughts, ideas, and technical information clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Well-developed drafting and mechanical drawing skills and experience applying drafting standards.
  • Works well under the pressure of time constraints and changing expectations.
  • Proficient using AutoCAD; Autodesk Inventor and Revit experienced preferred.
