Job Overview:

The Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department, ensuring the highest standards of freshness, quality, and customer service. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Inventory Management:

    1. Oversee the timely receiving, stocking, and display of products, ensuring all products meet company standards for quality and freshness

    2. Ensure in-stock conditions meet company standards and customer expectations.

    3. Coordinate with other teams to manage returns/credits and handle any quality/vendor issues.

    4. Supervise inventory control processes, including cycle counting, stock replenishment, and reconciliation in a way that ensures quality and minimizes waste..

    5. Implement inventory management systems and procedures to maximize accuracy and minimize shrink.

    6. Coordinate with merchandising and other teams to ensure adequate stock levels and timely replenishment.

  2. Team Leadership: 

    1. Hire, train, and supervise the team.

    2. Ensure staff adherence to policies and quality standards.

    3. Schedule staff shifts and manage labor resources to meet operational requirements.

    4. Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to ensure a high level of productivity and morale

    5. Identifies training needs and opportunities; develops and implements a plan for meeting those needs. Foster a culture of learning and passion for produce.

  3. Quality Control: 

    1. Regularly inspect inventory for quality and freshness. Implement and maintain health and safety regulations related to handling and storing fresh produce. 

    2. Implement strict quality control checks to maintain the integrity of all produce sold. Ensure all items meet or exceed safety and health regulations.

  4. Customer Service: 

    1. Ensure that the produce team is knowledgeable about the products offered. 

    2. Handle customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism while developing solutions and partnering with other departments for quick resolution.

  1. Marketing and Promotions: 

    1. Collaborate with the marketing, merchandising, and other teams to promote new arrivals and seasonal produce through various channels, including social media, events, and advertisements.

    2. Develop and sustain relationships with local farmers and suppliers.

  2. Safety and Compliance:

    1. Conduct regular food safety, organic, and other audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.

    2. Prepare and manage documentation required for regulatory inspections and audits.

    3. Enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

    4. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify, fix, and mitigate hazards

    5. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the department

  3. SOP Development and Implementation:

    1. Develop and update food safety, quality control, and other standard operating procedures (SOPs) to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.

    2. Ensure all food safety policies are communicated to and understood by employees.

    3. Researches, identifies, and presents new ideas to improve department operations.

    4. Ensures efficient operations through collaboration and coordination with other departments

    5. Maintains and develops positive relationships with existing and prospective stakeholders, demonstrating excellent customer service and setting an example for other staff.

    6. Collaborates with other department managers to set performance standards.

Preferred Education and Experience:

•High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.

•At least three years of related experience required; one year of supervisory dispatch experience required.

•Food Manager certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

•Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

•Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

•Must be able to complete various activities in the warehouse that may require hours of lifting, standing,walking, reaching, and carrying.

•Exposure to variable temperatures such as cold present in a refrigerated environment.
