About Pinecone

Pinecone is pioneering search and database technology to power AI/ML applications for the next decade and beyond. We provide customers with capabilities that until now have only been in the hands of a few tech giants.

If you’re excited about hard problems at the intersection of AI, machine learning, search engines, and databases, we would love to meet you! We are looking for collaborative scientists who move nimbly between research and production and dare to make an impact.
Our R&D team includes founders of multiple startups and world-class engineers and scientists including the core team that created Amazon SageMaker.

About the Role

As a Research Scientist, you will design, benchmark and implement high-performance algorithms and machine learning models, and work closely with the engineering team to bring your work to production. You will challenge and improve the state of the art in the field of vector search and information retrieval at large. You will also get the opportunity to publish at academic and technical conferences, and communicate with tech leads and customers.

You will work in a fast-paced and rewarding environment that demands the highest quality work with minimal supervision. And as we all do a little bit of everything, you will also be a strong generalist, work directly with customers, and mentor other engineers and scientists.

What we look for:

  • Ph.D. in a technical field, such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Statistics (alternatively, M.Sc. with significant research experience)

  • Proven research track record: publication of peer-reviewed results in the field of AI/algorithms/LLM/IR/databases/statistics and related fields

  • Proven hands-on expertise in AI, machine learning, algorithms, and/or data structures

Bonus Points:

  • Knowledge / experience in information retrieval models and metrics

  • Knowledge / experience in Large Language Modeling (LLM)

  • Knowledge / experience in Approximate Nearest Neighbor algorithms

  • At least one deep learning framework, such as Tensorflow or PyTorch

  • Experience in collaborating with engineering and product teams
