We are looking for a full time Academic Counselor to join the team this upcoming school year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education or guidance counseling.
Must hold a valid and current AZ Guidance Counselor certificate.
Proven experience as a guidance counselor, ability to operate within a wide range of student personalities and backgrounds.
Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Responsibilities:
Reports to Principal
Track the matriculation of PPHS Alumni in institutions of post-secondary education after the initial semester
Help students identify and apply for scholarships and financial aid
Maintain up to date contact information for PPHS Alumni who have graduated high school
Regularly outreach to alumni via phone, email, Facebook, Twitter and social events.
Utilize social media and technology tools to further the support to Alumni
Work 1:1 with students who would like to transfer to higher institutions
Address the specific needs of community college students as they transfer to institutions offering a 4 year degree
Assist students and parents with interpreting and comparing financial aid packages offered by colleges and universities
Maintaining positive relationships with school representatives, college admissions offices, scholarship agencies, and corporate/community partners
Oversee four-year college plans created by students for ongoing accountability and end-of-year reports
Visit college campuses as needed with students
Coordinate along with other site personnel the Freshman Academy
Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
Participate in the development of the master schedule
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
Collaborates with the school registrar to ensure grades are accurately recorded for each student
Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.
All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age (insurance requirement) and possess a valid AZ driver’s license with a “clean” or “acceptable” driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must, on a daily basis, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds several times a day. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
