POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • The Life Enhancement Assistant facilitates neighborhoods/households abilities to plan and carry out personal interests and social activities for residents and the neighborhoods/households. This includes creating a diversity of opportunities for meaningful pursuits, daily pleasures, recreation, exercise, friendships, social interaction, growth and learning, fun and enjoyment, personal routines and household rituals. Performs all tasks that require an activities professional, and assisting neighborhoods/households as needed in providing other activities. Works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in the neighborhoods/households. This may involve direct problem solving, conflict resolution and ensuring that activities are meeting the needs and desires of residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the design and coordination of the activities program, in coordination with other resident services to enable the residents in maintaining the highest attainable physical, social and emotional functions. Assist in the development and implementation of activities for residents unable to leave their rooms.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and supervision of small and large group activities designed to meet the needs and interests of residents to include social activities, indoor/outdoor activities, supervised daily walks, activities away from the facility, religious programs, Memorial services (in cooperation with Coordinator of Ministries) opportunities for resident involvement in planning/implementing the activity program, creating activities, education and exercise activities.
  • Coordinate the activity schedule with other resident services.
  • Post the monthly activity schedule on the bulletin board in large visible print for the information of residents and staff.
  • Assist in the development of individualized plan for each resident within seven (7) days of admission.
  • Assist in maintenance of progress notes specific to each residents activity plan recorded quarterly & more frequently if needed in each residents health record.
  • Contribute to resident care conferences. Integrate activity plans with the individual multidisciplinary resident care plan.
  • Maintain a current record of the type and frequency of activities provided and names of residents participating in each activity.
  • Assist residents with arrangements to attend dinner at Abernethy Dining Room or Pitzer Lodge and arrangements for guests of residents attending meals.
  • Assist residents with personal mail by reading letters, answering mail and thank you notes.
  • Direct volunteers in the Visitation Activity Program to assist residents to Chorale, Book Club, and various special campus programs. Arrange for one-on-one visitations.
  • Participate in the Culture Change process through committee assignments that may involve Steering Committee, Action Team, PersonFirst Team.
  • Attend meetings and serve on various employee committees as assigned.
  • Practice good safety habits and participate as a Safety Team Member.
  • Proactively support the achievement of all team and organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • Completion of 72-hour training course specifically designed for the position or willing to complete within six months of employment.
  • Prior diverse experience in social or recreational programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities/skills, interpersonal relationship skills and knowledge of federal and state regulations governing activities practice and leadership.
  • Possesses strong assessment skills including good insights into resident preferences and needs.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and relationship building skills with residents, and ability to explain residents needs to others as needed for resident advocacy.
  • Ability to work with and direct volunteers.
  • Proficient in various computer programs such as Calendar Creator, Word, and Print Artist.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a variety of circumstances and make sound judgments.
  • Ability to report to work on time and complete the assigned work shift.
