POSITION DESCRIPTION

To provide personal assistance and care to Pitzer Lodge residents as indicated by the activities of daily living to enable the residents to remain independent longer. The Pitzer Caregiver works with the entire Pitzer team to build a sense of team and create an environment based on the needs of the residents always providing support, friendship and kindness to all residents and team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist residents in physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Report concerns to supervisor(s) verbally or by use of resident log, charting pertinent facts, unusual events, illnesses, and injuries.
  2. Assist with personal needs of residents such as dressing, laundry, transferring from bed to wheelchair with appropriate assistance, and assistance to planned activities and meals.
  3. Provide special care as assigned by supervisor(s) such as intake and output, vital signs, and any other assignment necessary. Utilize resident care plans.
  4. Assist in creating a homelike atmosphere by building and maintaining strong, meaningful relationships with the residents and greeting guests and visitors in a professional manner.
  5. Attend shift report and receive assignments. Complete resident rounds prior to starting care needs. Observe call lights and report changes of condition immediately to appropriate supervisor(s). Respond to all call lights regardless of assignment.
  6. Assist in the dining room set up and service of meals to include assisting residents and checking to be sure all residents scheduled for meals are present. Assist in meal tray delivery as needed.
  7. Monitor physical/safety hazards of Pitzer buildings, lock/unlocking doors as necessary.
  8. Review assignments prior to leaving the shift to assure call lights are within reach and residents are safe and comfortable.
  9. Participate in the Culture Change process through committee assignments that may involve Steering Committee, Action Teams, PersonFirst Team, and/or self-led neighborhood/household team.
  10. Attend meetings and serve on various employee committees as assigned.
  11. Practice good safety habits, attend safety in-service meetings, participate as a Safety team member, participate in fire/disaster drills and be knowledgeable of policies and procedures.
  12. Proactively support the achievement of all team and organizational goals.

Qualifications


  1. Maintain current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
  2. Maintain a current first aid card.
  3. Possess a genuine concern and interest for the residents.
  4. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  5. One year prior experience as caregiver in a community care or skilled nursing facility preferred.
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality in a variety of circumstances and make sound judgments.
  7. Ability to report to work on time and complete the assigned work shift.
