Pierce County is Hiring a Civil Engineer 2 - Technical Services Section Near Tacoma, WA

This full-time position currently offers flexible hours and the opportunity to earn additional overtime in a primarily virtual work environment.

This customer service-focused position provides the chosen candidate the opportunity to work on a diverse and interdisciplinary team in our Technical Services Section within the Development Services Division. Our team regularly collaborates to problem-solve cutting-edge issues in the industry. We focus on providing quality engineering reviews and creative engineering solutions in a variety of areas including road, storm drainage, geotechnical, sewer, and subdivisions while interacting with a diverse customer base. You will also have the opportunity to provide input into County codes and standards.
 
This position is anticipated to be a primary review engineer involved with larger development projects. You will review and efficiently assist projects through the permit process. These are larger multi-year projects that are in various stages of design, permitting and construction.

Throughout the training process you will meet regularly with your supervisory team to discuss expectations, establish targets and set goals for yourself.

Your Future in this Role: 
This Civil Engineer 2 position offers a great foundation for future positions with the Planning and Public Works Department and Pierce County.
 
Core Daily Responsibilities: 
  • Review Site Development Drawings (road, storm drainage, sewer, grading, erosion control) for compliance with County regulations
  • Review subdivisions, land use applications, and commercial/industrial building permits for traffic impacts, critical area impacts, and site access requirements
  • Communicate via email, phone, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and meetings with applicants, developers, builders, engineers, planners, surveyors, and other professionals
  • Daily or weekly interactions with customers and the public

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience related to the position AND
  • A Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or a closely related field OR
  • Registered as an Engineer-In-Training OR
  • An additional four years of directly related work which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer's license
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Ability to successfully complete all Pierce County background investigations
  • Position may require satisfactory physical condition as evidenced by a County-approved medical examination prior to appointment
