Pierce County is Hiring a Civil Engineers (Multiple Opportunities Available!) - Development Services Division Near Tacoma, WA

  • We have multiple opportunities available! We are looking to fill vacancies in Technical Review due to promotions, transfers, and retirements. Depending on qualifications, we are looking to hire a Civil Engineer 1/Civil Engineer 2 and Civil Engineer 3 (Supervisor). 
  • These full-time positions currently offers flexible hours and the opportunity to earn additional overtime in a primarily virtual work environment.

These customer service-focused positions provides you the opportunity to work on a diverse and interdisciplinary team in our Technical Services Section within the Development Services Division. Our team regularly collaborates to problem-solve cutting-edge issues in the industry. This team is responsible for conducting complex commercial and residential plan reviews while developing and nurturing strong relationships with a diverse group of customers.
Some of the work you may support or lead depending on qualifications includes:
  • Provide input into County codes and standards.
  • Review Site Development Drawings (road, storm drainage, sewer, grading, erosion control) for compliance with County regulations.
  • Review subdivisions, land use applications, and commercial/industrial building permits for traffic impacts, critical area impacts, and site access requirements.
  • Communicate via email, phone, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and meetings with applicants, developers, builders, engineers, planners, surveyors, and other professionals.
  • Daily or weekly interactions with customers and the public.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the professional and technical staff of a section responsible for implementing a major engineering program; delegates authority to personnel commensurate with responsibility and ensures the proper functioning of section staff.

Civil Engineer 1 - Pay: $40.18-$50.62 Civil Engineer 2 - Pay: $45.35-$57.42 Civil Engineer 3 - Pay: $53.12-$67.61 Minimum Qualifications
 Qualifications will vary for the level of position with our entry-level requiring:
  • Education and work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field OR
  • Registered as an Engineer-In-Training OR
  • Four years of progressively responsible, broad-based civil engineering experience 
SPECIAL NOTE: Engineering students in their final quarter/semester of education prior to receiving their Bachelor’s Degree will be considered. The recruiting requirements of the position would have to be met prior to employment beginning.
