This recruitment will be used to fill 100 future elections extra hire vacancies in preparation for the 2024 August Primary and November Presidential General Election.
We will be hiring in July 2024. About the Division:The Auditor's Elections Division maintains voter registration rolls, conducts federal, state and local elections, verifies petition signatures, publishes a local voters' pamphlet, and maintains precinct lines after redistricting. Pierce County has over 550,000 registered voters and serves 114 jurisdictions and files candidates for over 500 elected offices.
The work of Pierce County Elections is consistently 24/7 - action-packed and exciting. Whether it is Election Day or another day of the year, effort is being made to continuously improve the voter experience and the technology of elections. Every vote counts and we need your help counting the votes. All positions are short term and may last only a few days during the election period. Workers may be scheduled varying shifts; however, you must be available to work full days during the Primary and General Election in 2024. If you are looking for a fun and exciting part time/seasonal opportunity, this may be the position for you!
Election Dates:
Sorter
Team members will operate and maintain two mail-sorters, grip large mail trays, stacks of envelopes and canvas-strap ballot totes. Staff will be required to stand and sit for extended periods of time, lift up to 40 pounds, work both indoors and outdoors, drive large vans, and work late hours and weekends. This position will be busy and, at times, in a loud environment.
Drop Box Daily Routes
Team members will work in two-person teams to drive on pre-determined routes around the county retrieving ballots from drop boxes. These routes cover Pierce County from Mt Rainier to Anderson Island. All ballots retrieved from the drop boxes are sealed in ballot totes and returned to the election's office. Multiple routes are scheduled every weekday after ballots are mailed out. Consistent documentation is required for all ballot totes at each location.
Drop Box Lockers
Team members work on election night to lock drop boxes throughout the county at exactly 8 p.m. Personal vehicles are required and mileage is pre-calculated for each drop box. Staff will collect and note any late ballots. Awareness of last voter in line is required.Minimum Qualifications:

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts from 2-hour up to occasional 16-hour shifts.
- Be available during election period and to work in the upcoming 2024 Primary and General Elections.
- A valid Washington State driver's license may be required when travel is required of the position.
- As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Information received from the background check is reviewed case-by-case and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.
