Summary:
Nursing instructors are responsible for instructing classroom courses, clinical supervision of students and counseling students at the direction of the Nursing Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plans and provides theoretical instruction and clinical or laboratory experiences which reflect an understanding of the program’s philosophy, objectives and curriculum. Help prepare course syllabi and class schedules in accordance with state and other minimum requirements.
  • Select appropriate learning experience, based on an understanding of the program’s curricular plans: selects class content and prepares lesson plans and confers with and utilizes community professionals.
  • Evaluates student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practices.
  • Prepares, supervises and evaluates student evaluation tools and examinations.
  • Participates in the academic advising and guidance of students.
  • Interprets hospital/clinical facility policies for students.
  • Develops and coordinates the use of educational facilities.
  • Schedule speakers for classes.
  • Maintain student databases aligned with Perkins and Council on Occupational Education (COE) requirements.
  • Develops and coordinates the use of clinical resources.
  • Organize and set up clinical sites and rotations.
  • Cooperates with nursing staff and supervisors in carrying out medical orders and developing nursing care plans of patients assigned to students; cooperates with nursing supervisors in selecting and planning student assignments; arranges orientation of students to assigned clinical areas; help students to integrate theory to clinical situations/applications; supervises nursing care given by students; conducts planned clinical conferences and classes; evaluates students’ clinical performance; and keeps appropriate records.
  • Participates in meetings, in-services, workshops and other professional meetings and acts as a resource to members of the community and other faculty members.
  • Participates in budget planning and administers the program budget.
  • Assist with the biannual Practical Nursing Advisory Board meetings.
  • Prepare and coordinate class schedules and clinical rotations for the Practical Nurse program.
  • Teach all standards and requirements outlined in the individual course syllabi and program approval.
  • Assist Foundations for Healthcare Professionals and Nurse Aide instructors.
  • Assist in writing and implementation of program objectives.
  • Attendance at appropriate meetings to keep the school apprised of national, state and local issues or changes.
  • Fosters the program’s responsiveness to community and/or employer needs.
  • Actively participate on the Council on Occupational Education (COE) committee and/or other college committee work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or appointed designees.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of MSN in Nursing or Nursing Education required.
  • Registered nurse with a current, unencumbered Colorado license in good standing.
  • Minimum of three full years recent experience: minimum of two of these years in direct patient care and preferably one year experience in nursing service
  • Demonstrates good fundamental nursing knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge in a simulated clinical setting.
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision, demonstrating ability to plan, initiate and evaluate educational/clinical programs, or ideas.
  • Ability to work well with many types of personalities and diverse populations.
  • Ability to function positively and productively as a team member, with ability to be an active open participant.
  • Professional liability insurance recommended.
  • Recommend membership in a professional organization.
  • Documented knowledge and skills related to the teaching of adults and teaching methodology as well as curriculum development and evaluation
  • Successful candidate must possess or be eligible to obtain

a Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license, and a Colorado Career and Technical Education (CTE) secondary/postsecondary full-time credential.

  • As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment.
