Phoenix Elementary School District 1 is Hiring a Transportation Supervisor Near Phoenix, AZ

JOB SUMMARY:

The Transportation Supervisor will develop and direct student transportation and student safety. Provides a continued specialized safety and skills improvement training program that ensures the highest qualified transportation staff. The program must include all pupil transportation laws outlined by State and Federal Rules Regulations and District Policies. Provides supervision of all employees involved in pupil transportation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assignedEffectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by the Director.

  • Supervises transportation employees: Bus Driver/Trainers, Bus Drivers/Support Personnel, Substitute Bus Drivers and Bus Attendants.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Complies with State Law and District policies and regulations.
  • Schedules, supervises, and trains Bus Drivers, Bus Attendants, students and others in school bus emergency procedures and evacuations to meet all Federal, State, and local laws, rules and Regulations.
  • Supervises and instructs all phases of school bus operating procedures to all new and continuing employees.
  • Administers ArizonaState classroom examinations and behind-the-wheel examinations to newly trained drivers for certification in accordance with state rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining drivers’ training records and having them available for inspection by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
  • Participates in all department staffing needs and interviews and evaluates potential staff as needed, makes recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion and release.
  • Participates in the evaluation of the performance of all transportation staff pursuant to Board policies.
  • Communicates and facilitates with school administrators, bus drivers, attendants, students, parents and others to resolve conflicts regarding bus-riding privileges.
  • Communicates effectively with schools, parents, transportation staff and others.
  • Performs dispatcher duties when needed.
  • Makes emergency decisions and last-minute changes to ensure safe, smooth operation of transporting students.
  • Accident evaluation, completion of reports, and submits to proper agencies.
  • Evaluates and advises for industrial accidents involving transportation employees.
  • On-call for emergencies during off-duty hours.
  • Works with vendors/suppliers providing contracted services, assistance and/or tasks.
  • Manages the Federal Omnibus Controlled Substance testing.
  • Cross-trained in all phases of transportation office procedures and operations to ensure safe, efficient transportation for students in the absence of another member of the transportation management team.
  • Substitutes as a school bus driver in times of excessive absences and/or emergencies.
  • Works closely with the Transportation Director in developing the transportation budget. 
  • Works closely with the Transportation Lead Mechanic to ensure all district school buses are maintained in accordance with Arizona State School Bus Standards.
  • Submit all reports required by State authorities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises bus drivers/trainers, bus driver/support personnel, substitute bus drivers and bus attendants.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent required, college course work preferred.
  • Training in administration, management or communications desirable.
  • Supervisory or personnel management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a certified school bus driver.
  • Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with passenger and air brake endorsements.
  • Must possess a School Bus Drivers Classroom and Behind-the-Wheel Trainers Certificates through Department of Public Safety.
  • Must possess strong Human Relations and communication skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of all aspects of pupil transportation and the ability to demonstrate and communicate that knowledge to others.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Rules, Regulations and Guidelines relative to pupil transportation, children with disabilities and students and parent rights.
  • Must possess detailed knowledge of the entire district including roadways, schools and emergency facilities and be conversant with the metropolitan Phoenix area.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board Policies.
  • Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff and outside business representatives.
  • Ability to communicate with staff in a harmonious and effective manner.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

Salary placement= $57,105.00 to $63,033.00 per school year, depending on experience.
