PHMC is Hiring a HIV Surveillance Data Manager/Epidemiology Near Philadelphia, PA

*JOB DESCRIPTION:

This full-time position is in the Division of HIV Health, HIV/AIDS Surveillance Unit. The position will report to the Senior Epidemiologist (IV) and will be responsible for data management and analysis of reportable HIV surveillance and related data. Collaboration with other epidemiologic staff across the Philadelphia Department of Public Health is also required as necessary. 

*RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Manage and evaluate data collected by the DHH Surveillance Unit as directed by the Senior Epidemiologist and/or the DHH Surveillance Program Manger and DHH Director when requested.

· Analyze data and prepare written reports, including fact sheets, manuscripts, and presentations, along with necessary tables, graphs and maps as required.

· Conduct key surveillance data management activities including, but not limited to:

o Semi-annual death ascertainment using State Vital Statistics Records, the National Death Index, and the Social Security Death Master File.

o Annual database matches to State Vital Birth Records and hospital discharge records to identify missing information on perinatal HIV exposures.

o Identifying potential duplicate HIV cases in the surveillance system monthly through both CDC and locally developed SAS programs

o Quarterly review of surveillance data and progress towards annual CDC outcome standards.

o Maintaining ongoing data cleaning of the Enhanced HIV/AIDS Reporting System (EHARS) database to ensure data completeness and accuracy.

o Conducting annual 10% audit of all new cases, including all cases with missing risk factor information or other required data elements

· Assisting in the development of the Annual HIV Surveillance Report.

· Review and evaluate technical reports, planning documents and incorporate into current DHH surveillance activities and City plans.

· Support data management, epidemiologic, or technical assistance needs of all program areas, as determined by the Senior Epidemiologist, Surveillance Program Manager, and/or DHH Director.

· Create and conduct trainings related to updates to eHARS, routine surveillance processes, and/or updated CDC guidance as necessary.

· Present analytic findings in various settings, including DHH, community, state, or national meetings as required.

· Ensure that the activities of the DHH Surveillance Unit are in accord with other local, state, and federal response plans, and with appropriate local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations.

*SKILLS:

¨ Experience with data analysis software including SAS (preferred) or R required. Experience with data management and other analytic software such as R Shiny, Tableau, RedCAP, and/or MS Access is preferred.

*EXPERIENCE:

¨ At least one year of experience in data management/epidemiology in an academic, public, or private setting, preferred.

*EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

¨ Completion of a Master’s degree with a major in Epidemiology or a related field required.
