IV - FLOAT PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
General:
The IV - Float Pharmacy Technician shall perform such duties as assigned in Input Department, Back Counter Fill Department, IV & Compounding Department of Long Term Care pharmacy which will enhance the services provided by the Pharmacy while adhering to all Federal and State Laws
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Enter new orders and changes and refills to Patient Profiles from the Docutrack que which you are assigned for the day. IE Refills, New Orders, Physician’s Orders, Narcs, E Scripts, Admissions
- Identify requests for controlled substances and handle per Phillips Total Care established policy and procedure
- Troubleshoot insurance rejections and contact billing department for assistance if necessary
- Triage and prioritize routes and orders when needed
- Contact facilities to fill missing information as needed or to advise them when a medication cannot be sent for any reason
- Fill orders as directed, pull from Beacon System, label medications, draw syringes with correct amount of medication, tear down returns, fill narcotic boxes and complete contingency boxes as instructed
- Prepare IV labels for IV solutions, maintain IV inventory level and patient records, clean and maintain records for IV pumps, clean IV hood and work area
4. Answer phone calls, contact facilities via phone call to arrange in services and vaccination clinics and coordinate Immunizer Program and schedule with Immunization Technicians
- Advise Pharmacist of medications orders that are unable to be sent and contact facility under the direction of Pharmacist
- Adhere by “Absolute Check Policy,” that willfully bypassing a required Pharmacist check will result in disciplinary action, up to and including immediate termination
- Will fulfil “on call” requirements for the IV Department
8. Provide customer service in a timely and professional manner
9. Attend all business related meetings and trainings as required
Qualifications:
Working knowledge of the Helix and Docutrack Software or equivalent.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent and Pharmacy Technician Certification required, working towards completion of Immunization Technician Certification as approved by Managing Pharmacist
Experience/Knowledge:
Prior experience as pharmacy technician required, strong typing ability, high degree of accuracy for detail work, ability to adapt to new situations, clerical skills (filing, office machines, etc.), ability to organize one’s own work
The IV - Float Pharmacy Technician will be required to work independently balancing the workload between departments. Floating to and from IV, Input, Pharmacy Fill Technicians, and Immunizations based on census. Must be a self-driven individual, motivated, multi-tasker who will be productive with minimal supervision. Must present themselves with proper business etiquette when contacting facilities on behalf of the Pharmacy to schedule in services and vaccination clinics.
This is a full time position; Monday through Friday; typically 8 hour days. Hours will vary from a start time of 9 AM to end of day at 7:30 PM, must be flexible
