Department Overview

Utility Partnerships & Innovation (UPI) is responsible for the creation of transformative, scalable solutions to interlocking utility challenges through the development of third-party partnerships and the deployment of new technology that directly accelerates PG&E’s long-term strategy. The South Bay Delivery Program Management Office (PMO) within UPI will lead creation and execution of the breakthrough outcomes in delivering for the South Bay. Specifically, the Director of Decarbonization will develop and execute an ambitious 6-year program toward net-zero by 2030 as a proof point in San Jose for PG&Es long-term decarbonization goals.

The PMO is a new organization which will require leadership in bringing several internal and external pieces together to achieve ambitious net-zero goals. This work is highly cross-functional by nature and requires extensive collaboration across PG&E, including EP&S, UPI, Local Customer Engagement, Strategy, Finance, Legal, and Regulatory Affairs organizations; and with external partners, including the City of San Jose, regulators, vendors, financial partners, and stakeholders. The successful candidate must develop strong relationships across each of these groups to ensure that PG&E’s interests and our customers’ and partners’ needs are reflected in the decarbonization solutions we provide.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a cross-functional matrixed team at first, until workstreams are built out with headcount to execute the work.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Senior Director, South Bay Delivery, PMO. This is a net new position; the Director will build a team in collaboration with the Senior Director.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $174,000

Bay Area Maximum: $296,000

&/OR

California Minimum: $165,000

California Maximum: $281,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and fully own the high-level strategic vision for localized Decarbonization, as part of the South Bay Delivery PMO breakthrough outcomes.
  • Adhere to plan, applying our Lean Operating System fundamentals, creating an operating rhythm that drives daily, weekly, and monthly performance.

  • Develop strategies for regulatory/legislative policy, and business objectives and foster a collaborative working relationship with regulatory agencies in order to ensure successful outcomes for PG&E.
  • Once team is developed, oversee performance management, including maintaining formal job responsibility documents, individual goals and development plans, and ensuring the team is aligned with the company and organization’s vision, goals, values, strategies, and operating plan, drive accountability and report on results to UPI and senior leadership.

Background Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 10 years of related work experience

Desired

  • Leadership experience, 3 years
  • Experience in a regulated environment
  • Experience managing a team, including development and performance management.
  • Experience managing significant budgets.
  • MBA or Advanced degree in engineering, policy, law, business, or similar
  • Utility and/or clean energy programs (e.g., distributed generation, storage) industry experience
  • Product and/or technology experience, particularly for complex retail consumer products, and process and/or product improvement experience
  • Excellent communication skills and experience engaging effectively with a range of stakeholders (e.g., technical staff or C-level executives).
