PF Bresee Foundation is Hiring a Communications and Volunteer Coordinator Near Los Angeles, CA

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Communications and Volunteer Coordinator will drive and deepen our external communications and relationships with all of our community stakeholders. This role’s primary responsibilities include executing the communications strategy and marketing plans for the organization, and working with Bresee staff to identify volunteer needs, then recruit, onboard, manage, and acknowledge volunteers. The goal is to ensure 1) smooth communications and mutually beneficial partnerships between Bresee and partnering entities (foundation, government, corporate, nonprofit organizations), and 2) that our organization is always staffed with the best and most reliable individuals who are correctly utilized for the fulfillment of our mission.

ESSENTIAL JOB ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Lead the annual planning and development of a communications and marketing calendar to guide organization-wide communication efforts and increase positive awareness of Bresee via Social Media, traditional media, government relations, and general marketing materials.
  • Write and send monthly e-newsletters, and other e-publications, including layout design, content creation, and photo selections in collaboration with Bresee staff.
  • Create social media content and maintain social media channels in order to engage with all stakeholders.
  • Manage and keep the website current, and collaborate with Bresee staff and IT.
  • Work with Bresee staff to develop an organized digital library of content that includes photos, videos, and client stories; take photos and create short videos that highlight our work with youth and families emphasizing their resilience, hope, and success.
  • Attend Bresee program events as requested to take photos and videos (occasional evenings and weekends will be requested).
  • Manage media and/or photographic/videographer contractors for events and special projects.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.

VOLUNTEERS

  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of volunteer recruitment, management, and recognition activities.
  • Keep detailed records of volunteer information and assignments, and enter and maintain up-to-date volunteer records in Bresee’s CRM.
  • Creatively implement ways in which volunteers, including students, community/civic groups, and corporate volunteers can get involved.
  • Lead volunteer appreciation and recognition efforts, including one annual volunteer event.
  • Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are content, supported, and well-placed.
  • Represent Bresee at offsite events and in local community venues to recruit volunteers and other supporters, conduct outreach, and build community partnerships.
  • Create quarterly volunteer e-newsletters and other marketing and outreach materials.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields preferred.
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience in a nonprofit setting, with strong experience in Communications, Social Media, Volunteer Management, multimedia experience (photography and video).
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to present material that is both engaging and informative through various methods.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, growth minded, and demonstrates strong initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, personable, positive, and professional with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, and build collaborative relationships. Strong emotional awareness for clients, coworkers, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize time and workload, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, efficiently, and possess a strong attention to detail. Team oriented, and collaborative as well.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications, Internet applications, major social media channels, with a willingness to learn and utilize other relevant software programs, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as other multimedia software programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing volunteer groups, and major projects.
  • Excels at operating in a fast paced, diverse, community environment while being flexible and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Must understand and support Bresee’s mission, vision, and values, and have the ability to clearly articulate Bresee’s community impact to outside stakeholders.
  • Have the ability to connect with diverse types of people and organizations, including individual clients, schools, businesses, corporations, and government entities.
  • Have demonstrated success working with urban youth and families, displaying sensitivity to multicultural issues, and comfort working in a culturally diverse, urban environment.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, and possess personal, reliable transportation.
  • Willing and able to attend evening or weekend meetings, trainings, and events in various locations across the Greater Los Angeles area.
  • Be able to exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality when interacting with stakeholders.
  • Follow Bresee’s procedures and policies.
  • Submit to, and pass, a criminal history background check.

Bi-lingual English and Spanish speakers preferred.

WORKING LOCATION: Hybrid

FLSA Status: Regular Full-Time

COMPENSATION: $55,000 - $65,000/annually
