The Foundation to Support Animal Protection (FSAP, also known as the PETA Foundation) formed in 1993 to provide general and administrative support services to PETA and certain other charitable animal protection organizations, including accounting and legal services, creative consultation, employee benefit administration, technology, and recruitment.About PETAPeople for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 2 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world.PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.Job DescriptionPosition Objective:To provide high-quality, high-volume spay-and-neuter surgeries and other routine services through the mobile clinicPrimary Responsibilities and Duties:• Promote the humane care and treatment of animals• Perform surgical sterilizations• Oversee and perform surgical monitoring, the administration of pre-anesthetic and anesthetic drugs, and post-surgical monitoring through discharge• Administer vaccines to clinic patients• Comply with the applicable state and federal laws established by the Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)Qualifications• Degree in veterinary medicine from an accredited university of veterinary medicine• Current Virginia veterinary license• Three years' experience practicing veterinary medicine• Experience in animal shelter medicine, supervision, and program responsibility• Experience with high-volume spay-and-neuter surgeries• Possession of or ability to obtain a DEA controlled-substance registration• Proven effective organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail• Willingness and ability to travel to various clinic stops throughout Hampton Roads• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record• Commitment to the objectives of the organizationAdditional InformationPETA’s Mobile Clinics Division (MCD) spays and neuters hundreds of companion animals every week in Southeastern Virginia in three state-of-the-art mobile clinics. Each clinic is capable of spaying and neutering up to 28 animals per day. The staff consists of a licensed veterinarian, a licensed veterinary technician, a veterinary assistant, and an assistant who checks in each animal.
