DEPARTMENT: Human Resources STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Safety and Physical Security Coordinator oversees and enforces the safety and physical security programs for the plant. As Human Resource Coordinator, the position aids with and facilitates the human resource processes at all business locations. This role administers employee health and welfare plans and acts as liaison between employees and insurance providers. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts daily inspections of each area of the plant, assessing and ensuring compliance with all applicable company and government safety, health, and security regulations and procedures.
  • Inspects fire extinguishers each month; inspects all other fire protection equipment to ensure the equipment is in proper working order.
  • Maintains files and documentation related to safety inspections and operations.
  • Oversees permit processes, issuing special permits for regulated activities such as enclosed space entry, welding operations (explosives), and transport of hazardous supplies and materials.
  • Develops and implements safety and security programs; provides required training on new programs and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable government compliance regulations, which may include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Defense (DOD), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) regulations.
  • Accompanies agency staff such as staff conducting safety, fire, and physical audits, throughout the facility; assists with audit process as required.
  • Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. 
  • Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
  • Submits online investigation requests and assists with new-employee background checks.
  • Reconciles benefits statements.
  • Conducts audits of payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommends corrective action.
  • Assists with processing of terminations.
  • Assists with the preparation of the performance review process.
  • Assists with recruitment and interview process. Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
  • Schedules meetings and interviews as requested by the director of HR.
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.
  • Prepares new-employee files.
  • All other duties as assigned.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS-Relationships are generally intra-organizational, interacting with supervisors and personnel. Creating the interface between departments allowing for the coordination and execution of production requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to identify unsafe situations or potentially unsafe situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agency staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports, permits, and training records.
  • Thorough understanding of all applicable government safety and security regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field required.
  • At least two years of safety management experience, some of which should include directing physical or DOD security programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years’ related experience required.
  • SHRM-CP credential preferred.
  • Some experience administering employment policies and procedures required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Previous work in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional status preferred. 

PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS

Ability to lift 60 lbs., work in extreme hot and cold weather, must stand for long periods of time, will be exposed to loud noise levels, operate hand and power tools for long periods of time. Work in an environment with dirt, grease, and dust. Manual dexterity to operate specialized equipment. Ability to hear telephone conversations and speak clearly. May need a high level of concentration in a busy area.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Monday through Friday and on-call is required. Shift, weekend, and overtime as required.
