Cathcart Rail LLC is Hiring a Valve Tech Near Mills, MD

$5000 Sign on and retention bonus!

Summary Description

The general purpose of this position is responsible for the removal, tagging for identification for later reapplication, tank car product and pressure relief valves. The person must be able to read and understand Cathcart Rail work orders, and make repairs in accordance with FRA, AAR, Cathcart Rail, and customer specifications. Ensure all company guidelines are met and all safety rules are followed when performing duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret job work orders to perform required valve removal and repair
  • Coordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
  • Notify supervisor of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
  • Interact with crew members in a team environment, as well as with supervisor
  • Follow all safety rules, keep work area clean and comply with all Cathcart Rail Environmental Health and Safety Policies
  • Complies with company's Quality program by following all in house quality processes and procedures and required AAR and FRA rules and regulations as well as any client specific procedures.
  • Any other duties as assigned such special projects

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate English at a proficient level
  • Ability to learn function specific operational details and pass an exam to demonstrate knowledge
  • Ability to learn, follow and perform required recordkeeping of Cathcart Rail EHS, and Quality policies, procedures, and checklists.
  • Work in hot and cold environment, in and out of the weather; work safely around heavy equipment and on top of, under and inside railcars, as well as around railroad tracks.
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools required to perform safe entry for cleaning
  • Perform/ prioritize multiple tasks with attention to details.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to wear and care for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to steel toed boots, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE as required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions. The environment requires working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, in high and low precarious places, confined spaces.

The work type is best described as heavy, hands-on mechanical work.

Tools used: Various air and electric powered tools are used, such as car jacks, impact wrenches, and grinders are used daily. Work also requires frequent use of hand wrenches, hammers, chisels, socket wrenches, and ladders. Cutting torches are also used, with welding equipment used upon qualification of employee.

  • Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, smelling and visual acuity, with color and depth perception
  • Ability to work in a confined space
  • Required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $29.00 per hour
