Pender Community Hospital District is Hiring a Wound Care, Ostomy, & Continence Nurse (part-time) Near Pender, NE

Job Description:

Specialize in providing wound care, ostomy and continence care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluation of assigned patients. Assists physicians with the development of treatment plans. Is responsible for meeting the established Standards of Nursing Practice in the management of all assigned patients. Acts within the guidelines of federal and state laws and regulatory standards and professional and ethical practice.

  • Utilizes the nursing process when directing or delivering care to patients identified with wound, ostomy and incontinence care. Performs modalities and procedures for which the technician is trained, performed under direct supervision of the therapist, and with regards to time duration, frequency and dosage as determined by the therapist.
  • Performs pre-operative teaching to the patient and their family members-must include, but is not limited to, the explanation of the WOCN role, identification of appropriate sites for stomal site placement, and the use of ostomy appliances and equipment.
  • Assesses the patient’s physical and psychosocial status as it pertains to the development of the patient’s plan of care.
  • Provides long-term follow-up for ostomy, wound and continence patients through outpatient clinic phone calls.
  • Serves as a consultant in the management of patients with urinary and fecal incontinence.
  • Assesses patient to determine etiology (risk) factors for skin breakdown.
  • Performs and maintains documentation.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.
  • Initiates collaboration with others outside of the service area.

Hours: Minimum 20 hours/week, Monday-Friday
Experience and Skills:

Education, Experience:

  • Registered Nurse-graduate from an approved school of nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years acute care experience
  • Prior Wound, Ostomy, Continence experience preferred

Certificates, Licensure, Registrations:

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or multi state licensure in a nurse licensure compact state
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Wound Care Nurse Certification or required within 2 years of hire
