Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is Hiring a Training and Support Coordinator (Full-Time) Near Beach, FL

Job Title: Training & Support Coordinator

Department: Animal Care

Reports To: Animal Care Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Hourly

Pay Rate: $17.00 Hourly

Summary

This position focuses on implementing public dog training classes, coordinating support for adopters and foster parents, and working with the Animal Care team to establish relationships with shelter animals. Assists animal care manager with animal transfers and coordination for transfers out of the shelter. Assists Animal Care Manager in creating dog behavior training materials and providing training support and consultation to clients as an intake prevention initiative. Leads department volunteers for training classes and administrative roles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Animal Care Manager.

Adopter and Community Support

  • Provide post-adoption support via all communication channels.

  • Assist in creating training material targeted at the public – adopters and not.

  • Class registration

  • Assist with and teach public canine training classes.

  • Provide feedback to Animal Care Manager to gauge public training class needs.

  • Setup and breakdown training supplies for public classes and individual training sessions.

  • Provide in-home or in-shelter individual training support for adopted dogs with minor behavioral issues to ensure successful placement.

  • Liaise with adopters experiencing severe dog behavioral issues and Animal Care Manager for referral to other training programs.

  • Liaise with foster parents and Animal Care Leadership on foster dogs displaying challenging behaviors in-home or in-shelter.

  • Support Humane Education for dog behavior curriculums and programming.

  • Assist in implementing in-home training and enrichment plans for dogs in foster.

  • Track clients’ and animals’ training support needs and create follow-up schedules.

  • Log daily work in a specified template.

  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping for all interactions with clients and animals in database, promptly report any upset clients to the Animal Care Manager.

Shelter Support

  • Contribute to a workplace conducive to high employee morale and output, ensuring positive working relationships between clients, staff, and volunteers.

  • Setup dog training yard with appropriate supplies prior to staff behavioral trainings.

  • Assist with data entry for the Animal Care Team including entering training and playgroup notes.

  • Assist the Animal Care Manager on transfers of animals to other organizations or breed specific rescues including communication with other organizations and coordinating transport.

  • Assist with the Animal Care Team’s general duties upon request.

  • Support the Adoptions and Animal Care Teams during in-shelter adoption events.

  • Keep inventory of supplies used/needed for public training and in-shelter training.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Volunteer Support

  • Work alongside department volunteers, provide guidance to ensure an enriching experience, and receive feedback to improve experience.

  • Support current volunteer dog handlers to be successful in their role and communicate feedback to the Animal Care Manager.

  • Liaison for volunteers in all roles related to public training classes and data entry/administrative duties for the animal care and training and support teams.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Working knowledge of animal shelter operations is preferred.

  • Minimum of one year working knowledge of animal behavior in a shelter environment.

  • Understanding of common behaviors in both dogs and cats, required.

  • Required to speak in a public setting, teach classes, and engage the public.

  • Ability to provide excellent service via multiple methods of communication (phone, email, text, virtual, etc.) required.

  • Working knowledge of multiple virtual communication channels preferred (Zoom, GoToMeeting, FaceTime, etc.).

  • CPDT-KA certification must be attained within one year of employment in the position.

  • Must support the League’s mission, policies, and practices.

  • Must be well-versed in Windows OS, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

  • Must be able to problem solve.

  • Minimum of two years working in a customer service setting.

  • Must have the ability to work in a constantly changing team environment.

  • Must be able to provide accurate information at all times.

  • Must be able to work weekends.

  • Must have a high-level ability to multitask, organize, and perform detailed tasks efficiently and with accuracy.

  • Must adhere to the company’s dress code.

  • Bilingual is a plus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is consistently required to stand, move, and kneel or crouch. In addition, the employee is constantly required to talk, hear, and use hands for grasping, reaching, and other operative tasks. The employee is required to stand and sit frequently. The employee will also be required to bend the neck and twist the body. The employee will be required to consistently lift an animate or stationary object of up to 50 pounds.

  • Required to speak in front of people in large and small gatherings for possibly long periods.

  • The tech will be required to hold animals for exams, and other tasks as requested by the supervisors, which will expose the employee to bio-material.

  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.

  • The employee is also frequently exposed to animal-related odors, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
