Job Description: Performs moderately complex substance abuse counseling work. Work involves treating and rehabilitating adult and adolescent individuals in the substance abuse treatment program. Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager with clinical support from the Lead SUD Counselor, provides therapeutic services for individuals with substance use disorders. Duties include but are not limited to assessment, counseling, treatment plan development, coordinating and advocating on behalf of assigned clients. Responsible for identifying the nature of the presenting problems and specific services and support needs of the individual, planning, advocating, and coordinating the delivery of needed services, including emergency services. Uses specific motivational interviewing techniques and other evidence-based practices to assist individuals through the process of change. Works with individuals that have co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a field related to human or social services is required. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: Experience in a social, behavioral, or human service occupation required. Experience working in a community mental health clinic is preferred. Must be familiar with working with adults with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. Must be familiar with working with adolescents ages 13 to 17 years old with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Must have full LCDC and be able to obtain QMHP-CS credential. LPC-Associate, LMFT-Associate, or LMSW under clinical supervision for LCSW is preferred.

A valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record is required along with a copy of a valid auto insurance card.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, lift 25 pounds, sit for an extended period, and reach overhead.
