Position Description: POSITION SUMMARY:
A cochlear implant audiologist will provide implant candidacy evaluations, mappings,
and rehabilitation for adults and children.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Initial and post-implant hearing evaluations
  • Send reports and information to cochlear implant team coordinator or surgeon
  • Provide initial stimulation and implant mapping
  • Ensure necessary equipment is received prior to initial implant stimulation, check in, and register new equipment
  • Trouble shoot equipment problems, send malfunctioning equipment for repair
  • Write letters for reimbursement/prior authorizations for CI parts or repairs for Commercial and Medicare patients
  • Provide aural rehabilitation (information on how the processor works, accessories, and auditory training as needed)
  • Perform diagnostic hearing assessments and complete reports timely
  • Provide hearing aid consults and fittings, especially for bimodal patients
  • Report findings of evaluation to other professionals if referred from another clinic
  • for children with cochlear implants, responsibilities also include:
  • Contact teachers, audiologists, parents and speech-language pathologists regarding implant candidacy
  • In-service childs educational staff and parents about functioning of processor, how to trouble shoot device problems, auditory development, and the educational needs of the child
  • Maintain contact with educational staff regarding childs progress and new information regarding cochlear implants
Additional Responsibilities may include:
  • Develop billing codes and strategies, meet with billing staff to periodically review payment, income, and codes
  • Provide auditory rehabilitation for children
  • Provide periodic workshops for professionals and presentations for students and the community
  • Install new programming software and equipment
  • Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor
JOB SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Masters Degree or Audiology Doctorate
  • CCC-A or AuD; Au.D license.
  • Must have experience in evaluating cochlear implant candidates, implant mapping, and aural habilitation.
  • Must be knowledgeable about current cochlear implant devices and technology, mapping devices, and auditory development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is fast paced but professional and friendly. Work requires movement throughout the office, sitting for periods of time, stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift files and paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate, keyboard, operate a computer, telephone, calculator, copier and fine-motor tools related to hearing aid cleaning, operation of grinding and buffing wheel, and such other office equipment as necessary. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work under stressful or emergency situations with high concentration and energy level. Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis. Employee may have exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparation and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work is performed in an office environment. The employee must be comfortable asking patients for money. Work is performed in patient rooms, hearing aid labs and back office and involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times and requires excellent communication skills. Interaction with others is constant and may be interruptive.
Contact involves dealing with sick individuals in addition to patients suffering from communication disorders.
Position requires willingness to work in clinic locations other than their primary clinic location as needed.
