JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
The Accountant role will be responsible for providing information to the Controller and management by researching and analyzing accounting data; entering General Ledger transactions, and preparing reports.
Functional Responsibilities
Responsible for general accounting support including preparing journal entries, account and bank reconciliations and supporting account schedules. Support Controller with month end and year-end closing and annual audit, maintenance of adequate accounting records and a comprehensive set of internal controls.
Ø Exhibit a strong work ethic with the ability to take direction and work in a team setting and independently.
Ø Adhere to Permian Basin Materials Code of Conduct and company policies.
Ø Prepare consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system.
Ø Coordinate more complex accounting projects and initiatives with Accounting, Finance team and other departments.
Ø Analyze complex financial information and make recommendations.
Ø Ensure general ledger entries are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
Ø Perform variance analysis and prepare account reconciliations.
Ø Recommend new accounting processes and procedure by analyzing current procedures.
Ø Document and monitor internal controls to maintain the integrity of data.
Ø Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
Ø Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Ø Manage, mentor, and trains new accountants, accounts payable and account receivable staff.
Ø Maintain the integrity of the system used to generate all statements, payments, accruals and expenses.
Ø Support month-end and year-end processes to ensure complete in a timely manner.
Ø Heavily assist with yearly audits.
Ø Other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Ø Review & know Balance Sheet
Ø Ensure accurate chart of accounts
Ø Ensure compliance with GAAP
Ø Ensure compliance with sales tax and property tax reporting
Ø Provide district management with advice on the financial implications of business activities
Ø Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities
Ø Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
Ø Manage and motivate accounting staff
Ø Ensure credit policies and DSO practices are balanced and in place
Ø Ensure capital expenditures are captured and booked correctly
Ø Ensuring compliance with sales/use tax and dyed fuel tax reporting and filings
Competencies
Ø Computer literate particularly in Microsoft Office applications.
Ø Ability to prioritize work and multi-task as needed.
Ø Good mathematical skills and reasoning ability.
Ø Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ø Detail oriented.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS
Ø A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
Ø A minimum 1 - 3 years in an Accountant role, focused in the Aggregate/Ready Mix industry preferred
Ø Experience in ensuring compliance with Sales and Use tax and dyed fuel tax as well as filing and reporting these to appropriate governmental and reporting agencies
Ø Experience with annual budget and long-range financial planning processes and managing and developing monthly financial reporting and analysis is required
Ø Experience managing or working in an organization with external debt facilities including bank financing containing quarterly financial reporting and covenant compliance is a strong plus
Ø Experience in implementing a financial ERP system is a strong plus
Ø M&A experience or experience integrating and consolidating financial systems as part of an acquisition is a plus
Ø Comfortable with a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Ø Team oriented, able to take direction and work independently
Ø Able to think through issues
Ø Initiative and sense of urgency
Ø Demonstrated ability to use technology for efficiency gains
Ø CPA, CMA designation is a strong plus.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ø Candidate must be drug free.
Ø Must be able to:
o Lift or carry up to 20 pounds from floor to 3’ – 5’ occasionally,
o Lift or carry less than 10 pounds frequently (documents, supplies, small office machinery),
o Sit for extended periods of time with occasional walking and standing,
o Use hands and fingers to operate computers and other office machinery,
o Effectively communicate in verbal and written formats with internal and external personnel, clients, and vendors,
Ø Work is performed in a normal office environment.
