Pawtucket School Department is Hiring a Social Worker (1 year position) - Shea High School (.4) & Community Health (.6) Near Pawtucket, RI

The Pawtucket School Department is seeking a Social Worker. SUMMARY:Supports students with behavioral, mental, emotional or physical problems; counsels students whose behavior, school progress or mental or physical disability or condition indicates need for assistance. Consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and effect solutions. Arranges for medical, psychiatric, and other test and examination that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures. Attempts to alter attitudes and behavior of parents and teachers that cause or aggravate problems.. Serves as liaison between home, school and community resources, protective services, doctors, and clergy members. Serves as a consultant to school personnel regarding students or situation which are not referred for district service.EXEMPLARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:-Participate in the development of individualized behavioral program for students base on their unique special needs;-Consult with parents, teachers and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and effect solutions;-Provides individual group, and family counseling to students and their families who are determined to be in need of such services;-Arranges for medical, psychiatric and other examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures;-Recommends changes in educational/behavioral program or other treatment to effect remedy;-Participates in meetings such as: Response to Intervention (RTI), Section 504/ADA and Special Education evaluation /IEP meetings when scheduled;-Serves as a liaison between school and community resources, such a family service agencies, child guidance clinics, protective services such as DCYF, and doctors;-Consult with school personnel with respect to students or situations which are not referred to the social worker for direct service;-Maintains records necessary for the performance of responsibilities;-Have knowledge of the levels systems in place for the student and be able to assist students in graduating to higher levels;-Performs social assessments and adaptive behavior skills assessment to determine student’s needs;-Performs crisis intervention to student, school personnel, and family on a needed basis;-May be required to conduct home visit with parents (guardians) to review and discuss student’s needs and recommendations established;-Perform such other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director or Building Principal.IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF:-Common Core Standards and NECAP/PARCC assessment;- Requirements of identifying and reporting abuse/;neglect;-The related laws of Rhode Island, as they relate to IDEA, RTI and ADA requirements, regulations and procedures of the Pawtucket School Department and the Rhode Island Department of Education; -Instructional materials and their relationship to program goals and objectives; -Principles of effective management and evaluation of instruction;-Principles of learning; principles of effective instruction; -Assessment administration and use, both formative and summative;-School accountability;-Data analysis techniques;-Response to intervention (academic and behavioral);-Professional learning community organization and protocols;SKILLED AT: -Public speaking; writing; listening; problem-solving; dispute resolution and providing direction; -Working with individuals and groups; -Research and data analysis; -Interpersonal skills; -Teaching and presenting;-Use of instructional technology;-Observing and understanding effective teaching techniques; -Being innovative and working with little direction;-Leadership; -Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; LICENSE/CERTIFICATE:-Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license;-RI School Social Workers PK-12 Certificate.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:-Experience in working with students from urban area-Desire to work with middle school students and young adults. -Experience working with students with Autism and behavioral/social/emotional challenges.-Experience with diversity preferred.-Successful experience teaching.COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:-Full PSD benefits package.-Salary will be that of teacher and commensurate with experience.
