GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Research & CI Director, the Research Specialist performs research, reference and related information services to support the transactional and litigation work of a global law firm. This position requires excellent research skills, the ability to manage multiple demands at a time, a keen eye for detail and strong written and verbal communication. The ability to work in a collaborative environment is expected and required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conduct legal and business research on a variety of topics, including case law, statutes, regulations and industry trends, as well as providing information to support corporate mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions and restructuring work.
2. Utilizes a wide array of fee-based or online research tools including Bloomberg, Capital IQ, FactSet, Intelligize, Deal Point Data, Pacer, Lexis and Westlaw.
3. Conducts factual research as well as document organization and production. Provides search results and findings and a clear and organized manner to attorneys.
4. Monitors and curates current awareness alerts as assigned.
5. Provides support on other projects or duties as assigned.
6. Accounts for billable time by submitting diaries on a regular basis.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Experience / Education
Bachelors from an accredited university or college. Minimum G.P.A of 3.5. Interest in research as demonstrated through coursework, extracurricular activities or jobs and internships strongly preferred.
Competencies
1. Basic knowledge of public company regulatory filing requirements and business terminology. Knowledge of the U.S. courts system and docket filing systems would be an asset.
2. Technical proficiency in Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word applications.
3. Strong interpersonal, research, verbal and written communication skills to facilitate effective working relationships with attorneys, clients and support staff.
4. Dedication to provide upper-margin customer service.
5. Demonstrate close attention to detail with the ability to provide accurate, neat and thorough work product.
6. Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities.
7. Ability to quickly learn new research applications.
8. Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
9. Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team.
10. Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.
WORK REQUIREMENTS:
Attendance Requirements: This is a hybrid position requiring onsite attendance three days per week, including Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30pm. Must have availability when necessary before or after normal working hours in order to meet the needs of the firm. Opportunities for alternative schedules (e.g., providing coverage on Saturday or Sunday) are also available, for the appropriate candidate.
Travel Requirements: Ability to work onsite in the New York office as required.
Salary: $70,000 - $80,000. Paul, Weiss offers competitive compensation and benefits packages. The firm considers a number of factors when determining compensation, including, but not limited to, education, years of experience, levels of experience, competency levels and other relevant skills and qualifications.
