Student Therapy Assistant: AmeriCorps Service Member
Program Overview:
Pattison’s Academy is a nonprofit with the mission to unlock the potential of individuals with disabilities and empower their families. Located in Charleston, South Carolina, we provide individualized, comprehensive, year-round programming for children with disabilities through our charter school, summer camp, therapy services, and early intervention services. Our collaborative model puts the child at the center of care and surrounds them with a team of specialized supporters. By consolidating their care network, we provide a one-stop to the tools necessary for the child to unlock their potential.
AmeriCorps Member Position Overview:
The Student Instruction Therapy Assistant will provide ongoing student support with individualized therapeutic goals and technical assistance/maintenance of therapy equipment and technology. They will support the therapy team during individual and group therapy sessions with students. They will also be trained on and implement the MOVE therapy curriculum with students.
Member Duties:
- Facilitate and Implement MOVE curriculum based on students’ individualized implementation plans
- Complete training on utilization and maintenance of therapy equipment
- Provide staff training and technical assistance on the use of therapy equipment
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of therapy equipment and spaces
- Support the therapy team with individual and group therapy sessions
- Complete training on and provide feeding support to students
- Create deliverables to send home with students to support families in continuing
- Therapy implementation at home
Service Term: August 14th, 2023-July 31st, 2024
Service Schedule: 25-35 hours per week*
Work Location: On-Site: Pattison’s Academy 721 Wappoo Road Charleston, SC 29407.
Minimum Requirements:
- Be at least 17 years of age or older
- Have or be working towards a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
- Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria
- On track to have or have a degree in physical or occupational therapy
Member Benefits:
- Living Allowance- $900 to $1300 *Pay will be dependent on how many hours you can work & the schedule will be flexible with your schedule during the 7:30 am-3 pm school day*
