Pattison's Academy Charter School is Hiring a Speech Language Pathologist (PRN) Near Charleston, SC

PRN School Based Speech Language Pathologist
Nature of Work:
Pattison’s Academy is seeking a PRN school based speech language pathologist position. The SLP regularly collaborates and coordinates with the interdisciplinary team in order to implement therapeutic interventions needed for the educational success of the children attending Pattison’s Academy Charter School.
Speech therapists will contribute to the educational achievement of our children by performing the following: 
  • Screen and evaluate students/ patients with severe multiple disabilities.
  • Develop and implement educational and health related goals as agreed upon by therapists, teachers, students, administrators, and parents.
  • Implement and monitor therapeutic interventions.
  • Support teachers, counselors and staff to ensure those interventions are integrated as part of the classroom activities and curriculum.
  • Educate and coordinate with parents. 
  • Speech language pathologists are expected and encouraged to use professional judgment and evidenced-based knowledge in developing, monitoring, and modifying individualized programming while ensuring the safety of staff and children.
  • The SLP will work with the teachers, administrators, and billing coordinator to manage work schedule and IEP compliance.
Required Education, Licensure, Experience:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited program.
  • ASHA Certification/Certificate of Clinical Competence.
  • Experience in a pediatric practice or medically based setting including children with multiple disabilities.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic feeding and swallowing practices. 
  • Experience with Augmentative and Alternative communication/ AAC devices.
  • Knowledge of oral placement/oral motor therapy for feeding and swallowing functions.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, policies and procedures that mandate and guide speech therapy practice in schools.
  • Knowledge of professional literature, evidence based practice, and continuing education content to apply speech therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence based practice to guide intervention decisions.
  • Knowledge of writing therapeutic/rehabilitation goals aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities to ensure access and participation in the general education curriculum.
  • Ability to gather and assess outcomes for program evaluation data and use them to implement and/or modify goals using evidence based speech therapy interventions to improve performance and participation of students and patients.
  • Ability to adapt and modify environments, equipment, and materials including assistive technology.
  • Ability to maintain timely and current reporting, documentation, scheduling and billing in accordance with professional standards and reimbursement requirements.
  • Ability to administer appropriate assessment tools for evaluation of students and interpret the evaluation data in order to write a comprehensive report to reflect the strengths and barriers to student’s participation and performance.
  • Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop meaningful IEP goals that will improve the student’s Health Related Quality of life and foster a successful educational experience for the student and parent.
  • Competence with a variety of AAC devices
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to research a variety of disorders and implement a treatment plan to best meet their communication needs.
  • Experience with feeding therapy including: strategies to facilitate feeding, safely evaluating an individual’s feeding function, and how to provide intervention for feeding disorders. 
  • Develop creative and engaging lessons for students who are non-verbal. 
  • Collaborate with teachers on how to incorporate speech goals within classroom setting.
