Responsibilities

Job DescriptionAs Director, Business Applications & Enterprise Architecture, you will be a key leader in ensuring the successful delivery and adoption of the company’s high profile technology transformation initiatives by working closely with management and key business partners to solution & implement scalable new systems and functionality as well as ensure existing systems are optimally maintained and grown. This position will manage a team of application owners, architects and developers that provide a crucial link between business functional teams and technology with an emphasis in the company’s development, construction, and energy operations verticals. With business needs as the driver, you will work with your team to augment an optimal IT asset landscape, carefully assessing and rationalizing technology solutions, as well as ensuring successful and timely delivery of prioritized functionality. You will play a key role in the intake and onboarding of all new platforms and systems, integrating information and applications, and setting the long-term direction of the IT asset landscape in alignment with leadership and business objectives. In collaboration with the broader organization, you will develop and maintain a roadmap to minimize technical debt as the organization scales.

Key Accountabilities

Role accountabilities include:

  • Provide expert leadership to your team and the business in the planning, execution, and rollout of key technology implementation initiatives utilizing standard project stage gates including intake -> discovery -> design -> build -> test -> deploy. Ensure risks are effectively communicated and mitigated in a timely manner on all projects. Work with and utilize the company’s business improvement committee as a platform to ensure overall initiative success, change management and adoption of transformation initiatives.
  • Work closely with process design teams, business stakeholders, application owners and data architects to ensure technology solutions are recommended and built for maximum business process efficiency, with optimal system and data architecture. Provide guidance on innovative, cost effective and efficient system architecture & designs, leveraging conceptualization techniques and POCs as needed to help drive decision-making.
  • Manage and administer assigned areas of the business improvement project portfolio, including assisting with priority/key initiatives as defined by leadership (e.g.: ad hoc data analyses/special initiatives, troubleshooting and support), and supporting leadership and the business improvement committee with planning and organization of the business improvement project portfolio.
  • Provide controlling oversight and feedback on all assigned business improvement projects, including:
    • Project Financials, from budget building through Budget vs. Actual spend analysis,
    • Project progress through stage gates, continually monitoring the viability and health of ongoing team activities.
  • Maintain budget accountability for capex implementation costs and opex software subscription/license and support costs for all assigned business applications. Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of related implementation projects.
  • Ensure team are meeting standard support KPI’s for operational application portfolios including high incident and service request response times.
  • Establish a review process and approval authority for new technology solutions and proposed changes to existing architecture in consideration of best practices & standards, change management requirements, and enterprise business and IT asset management objectives. Document, own, and embed policies and controls for these procedures into the organization.
  • Provide rationalization of applications, integrations, tech stacks/platforms to reduce/minimize existing and future technical debt through creation and tracking of KPI’s including but not limited to: Number of applications per capability, IT cost per capability, etc. and other means of rationalization in consideration of the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Leverage an IT asset management database within ServiceNow to provide a complete picture of the company’s IT resources including costs and overall health. Ensure the system is kept up to date, producing accurate and effective data by partnering with application owners as needed.
  • Utilize accumulated information and insights to design and own a living roadmap for the company’s IT platform and asset strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives. Use effective visualization techniques and other means to support conclusions and accelerate timely action on the roadmap.
  • Provide leadership for technology innovation on behalf of the IT organization and larger company. Assess market trends and recommend new technologies and features that once implemented can provide the company with a competitive advantage.
  • Manage business partner relationships and set appropriate expectations with leaders and stakeholders as it relates to technology needs.
  • Support M&A transactions and diligence in terms of impacts to IT architecture integration requirements.

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field required (Master’s degree preferred or equivalent years of experience).
  • 8 years working experience in software systems or architecture development and delivery with demonstrable experience in project management, innovation, and emerging technologies.
  • 5-10 years of experience managing medium to large size teams of direct reports and combination of onshore/offshore resources.
  • Ability to build and lead highly effective, motivated, and productive teams.
  • Experience with the Oracle, Microsoft and Salesforce suite of products highly preferred. Additionally, experience with Energy Management (ETRM), Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), Business Intelligence & Analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau), and Content Management systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of common enterprise architecture frameworks such as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), the Zachman Framework, and the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF) is desirable.
  • Prior hands-on working and/or implementation experience with ServiceNow CMDB and software/hardware asset management modules or similar architecture repository/tool desirable.
  • Experience building models and graphical representations and abstractions. Actual experience developing and building models based on enterprise framework.
  • Expertise and experience with a broad range of applications and technologies, across multiple industries desired. Specific knowledge of platforms and technologies including SaaS (such as Salesforce.com, ServiceNow), Cloud Hosting (Azure, AWS), ERP Platforms (such as Oracle), Integration and integration frameworks, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Big Data, Reporting and Visualization, Document & Contract Lifecycle Management, Energy Systems and Energy Operations, Construction and Project Management Platforms, RPA, Gen AI, etc.
  • At least 10 years of cross-departmental working business experience, with demonstrated ability to successfully engage, empathize and connect with a wide variety of business owners and stakeholders to effectively drive business/technology alignment and progress of initiatives.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and communication abilities, including:
    • Translating requirements and facilitating communications between business partners, technical and non-technical team members, both verbally and visually.
    • Good judgement, ability to quickly get to the underlying root cause of problems or issues.
    • Communicating project status and complex subject matter to directors, vice presidents, C-level executives, and board members as needed to provide insight into the current state of the business or project, and as required, inspire the envisioned end state.
    • Experience in leading change initiatives through process- and metrics-based leadership.
    • Managing and engaging on multiple, complex projects with competing needs and resource requirements.
    • Ability to rationalize and recommend optimal combination(s) of technology applications and architecture based on enterprise business needs, efficiency and long-range cost effectiveness.
    • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical ideas in business-friendly language.
  • Multi-cultural and multi-regional experience is highly preferred.
  • Renewable energy industry experience is desirable.
  • Ability to travel within the U.S. up to 10-20% of time is desirable

The expected starting pay range for this role is $137,000 to $186,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
