Job Description:

Partnership Academy, a Pre-K-8 Public Charter School, is seeking a qualified, motivated school social worker to provide social/emotional and mental health support and interventions to meet the specific needs of at-risk-students and families in special education.

The social worker must have a strong work ethic, proven leadership and organizational abilities, and an understanding of mental health, and trauma. An ideal candidate would have experience with, and specific knowledge of, healthy Pre-K-8 student development, social and emotional adaptive functioning, creating measurable IEP goals and objectives, and special education law as it pertains to social work.

As a charter school, Partnership Academy has a strong commitment to culturally and developmentally relevant instruction for all students. Through a highly collaborative culture, Partnership Academy educators work in teams to provide differentiated and hands-on instruction. Partnership Academy requires its teaching staff to constantly improve their instruction in ways that directly impact students’ academic, linguistic, social, and emotional growth.

The special education social worker will collaborate with other members of the special education team to provide exceptional instruction aligned to students’ IEP goals, particularly as it pertains to social work services and related goals. We are looking for a special education social worker who can collaborate effectively with a strong team, including speech/language pathologist, special education teachers, occupational therapist, classroom teachers, intervention teachers, and associate educators.

Social workers in this position must also ensure they analyze and adapt provided curriculum to support the needs identified in student’s IEPs, effectively collect and interpret data to guide services, provide individualized instruction based on student needs, partner with families and guardians to support students, and establish a strong culture of social emotional learning and mental wellness.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Social Work
  • Valid license as a school social worker by MDE.
  • Licensed by the Board of Social Work at the undergraduate level or higher (LSW, LGSW, LISW, or LICSW).
  • Experience in child development, behavior, and special education
  • Experience with individual and group counseling
  • Culturally competent; experience working with Latino families and children preferred.
  • Must be able to work in team decision-making situations.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to coordinate with others and lead teams when necessary.
  • Providing direct social work service to special education students, as outlined in the Individual Education Plan.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Providing direct social/emotional/mental health services, individual and group, to students.
  • Spanish speaker preferred

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Serves as a team member of the special education team
  • Provide formal and informal education to teachers, students, and parents regarding special education, specifically as it pertains to mental health
  • Provides crisis intervention and support as appropriate.
  • Provide a comprehensive approach to mental health that includes evaluation, data collection, interventions and regular monitoring to produce socially significant improvement in children’s mental health and social emotional wellness.
  • Consults with education staff relative to appropriate interventions, techniques, and modifications for students in need.
  • Connects families with additional community resources and supports as identified/needed
  • Performs special education due process related duties and responsibilities; serves as administrative designee on Individual Education Plan (IEP) team – facilitating meetings, taking notes, IEP planning, complete due process paperwork, etc.
  • Provides direct social/emotional skill service to special education students; evaluates and assess students with suspected disabilities.
  • Contacts parents of special education students with information regarding meetings and due process rights; conducts parent interviews; responds to parent questions and concerns.
  • Assists special education team members with due process timelines.
  • Provides direct social/emotional evidence based and culturally responsive intervention for students; consults with staff regarding support and interventions for students, interpreting behaviors for staff.
  • Facilitates social skills groups.
  • Collaborates with community mental health providers and case managers.
  • Connects students and families with basic needs resources; communicates, problem solves, and shares information with community partners.
  • Provides individual and group support for students and families around issues of grief and loss, trauma, suicide ideation, etc.; provides classroom lessons on grief and loss; psychoeducation; collaborates with crisis assessors – talks with families about crisis assessment resources, arranges for crisis assessment.
  • Prepares Child Protective Services referrals reporting abuse and neglect concerns.
