Primary Purpose of Position:
The Media Relations Specialist is a member of the Marketing and Communications team and will understand company goals and strategy. This individual will serve as a liaison between the organization and public media. The Media Relations Specialist will be responsible for maintaining and developing Partner’s press and media outreach, creating unique and quality content, and placing articles that enhance the organization’s media presence and highlight its community focus. They will also provide general writing and editing support in a Marketing and Communications department that requires a shared approach to work and a willingness to take on whatever task is at hand. This position will report to the Director Marketing and Communications and will also work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer to identify media outreach opportunities.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Proactive approach in the creation of stories, content and relationship development with media and community stakeholders.
  • Develop media and outreach engagement campaigns.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with journalists.
  • Prepare and distribute articles and press releases for the media, including crisis communications.
  • Create and maintain a positive reputation for the organization through various media outlets (newspapers, magazines, blogs, broadcast news, social media, etc.).
  • Coordinate interviews and interactions with the press.
  • Write, edit, pitch and place feature stories, opinion pieces and other earned media.
  • Recommend and implement media strategies for the release of new products, including messaging, talking points, campaigns, positioning and dissemination channels.
  • Develop media packets.
  • Provide content and maintain the news page on Partners website.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop a proactive system to identify media opportunities.
  • Gather and disseminate timely information to the media and staff.
  • Organize and oversee media training to internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Research and monitor new publishing platforms to enhance the user experience for Partners’ audience.
  • Position/support Partners’ leadership at outreach opportunities and community events.
  • Provide support to administrative staff and project leaders around marketing and communication needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with online marketing tools such as Constant Contact or similar email automation tools, CMS platforms, Sprout Social, LexisNexis, Rival IQ and similar social media scheduling tools.
  • Experience with paid marketing technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Associated Press style.
  • Familiarity with web design and publishing.
  • Adaptability according to requirements.
  • Ability to simplify complex topics for various audiences.
  • Good understanding of social media KPIs.
  • Skilled team collaborator.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without supervision, as necessary.
  • Excellent multitasking skills.
  • Innovative with work product.
  • Able to produce visual content (graphic, photographic and video).
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with SharePoint.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite products including Illustrator, Spark, Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere.
  • Able to travel as needed.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize multiple projects at once while maintaining quality.


Education/Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in public relations, communications, journalism, English or related field. At least two years solid experience in a media or public relations environment. Three to five years of experience in media outreach is preferred. Experience in health care or behavioral health/IDD industry desired. Local management entity/managed care organization experience a plus.
