Preschool Teacher

Russell Elementary School

2024-2025 School Year

Salary Range: $50,756 - $99,021, PLUS employer-paid retirement, and generous benefits package

Hours: 40 hours per week

Days: 192 days per year

Overview:

To actively engage in or assist in the teaching of preschool-age students, leading them toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, physical, emotional and psychological growth and maturation.


Job Requirements
:

  • Valid Oregon teacher license acceptable to Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for position assignment –
  • PreK - 5 authorization. Satisfactorily perform the requirements of the position as described in the job description.
  • Minimum of 5 years Early Childhood background, evident in both classroom experience and education.
  • Possess the emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task except for temporary disability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written language the goals and learning approaches of the preschool to a variety of audiences: parents, educators, community members and funders.
  • Strong interest in attaining the skills of a culturally responsive, inquiry-based, teacher researcher who collaborates with others to continually improve practice
  • Participant in Teaching Preschool Partners professional development workshops or similar PD.
  • A reflective practitioner who co-creates with children and adults
  • First/ Aid CPR certification (complete within first 30 days of hire)
  • Food Handlers Card (completed before first day with students)
  • Step 11 on the Oregon Registry
  • Enrolled in the Central Background Registry (completed before first day with students)

Position Details


Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of child development, birth to age five.
  • Understand and recognize the children’s backgrounds including the languages and cultures of the home in planning classroom environments and experiences.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately to families about the education of their children in a variety of ways (i.e. home visits, weekly journal, conferences).
  • Demonstrate playful inquiry approaches to learning through the arts and sciences.
  • Maintain an inviting classroom environment with a rich array of culturally appropriate materials from the arts and sciences that are organized and accessible to young learners.
  • Using a variety of observation and documentation tools as provided to the program, assess the development and learning of students on a regular basis, and use the compiled information to plan instruction, and to maintain records using Habits of Mind Developmental Rubrics.
  • Learn the technology tools required to document and record student learning outcomes in Habits of Mind Developmental Rubrics.
  • Participate in the mentorship program provided by Teaching Preschool Partners.
  • Participate as a Russell prek-2 learning team member in the investigation of inquiry approaches
  • Host visiting educators interested in observing inquiry approaches to learning.
  • Develop and maintain the classroom in accordance with Oregon ODE/ELD health and safety requirements as well as all relevant early learning and public education requirements and standards.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as identified by supervisors.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Work in partnership with program consultants, classroom assistants, and other support staff (ELD specialists, classroom volunteers, etc.) to implement Inquiry Approaches and maintain a learning environment for playful inquiry and exploration supporting all learners.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families and with Russell’s partner agencies as needed to support children’s learning and development. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with staff, students and their families concerning both the physical, cognitive and social and emotional development of students; work in partnership with school secretaries to support enrollment; conduct developmental screenings; connect families to needed resources; plan and implement family engagement activities, and other partnership activities designed to support children and families.
  • Support the transition of children and families to kindergarten.
  • Attend the Pre-K teaching team monthly meeting, Russell faculty and building meetings, carry out co-curricular activities, and serve on school and district committees upon request.
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Assist in preparing budget and instructional materials.
  • Carry out any other job-related duties as assigned by administrative request.
