Primary Purpose

Responsible for filming and developing radiographic films in assigned area of Radiology meeting standards set by Parkland, State and Federal regulations.

Minimum Specifications

Education

•Must be a graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiology Program.

Experience

•Must have at least five years’ experience in Diagnostic Radiology, with two years of experience at Parkland.

Required Certifications

•Must have an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

•Must have a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) certification from Texas Department of State Health

Services (TDSHS) or Texas Medical Board. Incumbents whose certifications expire(d) between December 2015 and February 2016 will have until February 28, 2016 to renew.

•Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:

• American Heart Association • American Red Cross Rescuer • Military Training Network.

•Must be able to demonstrate time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

•Must be able to demonstrate oral and written communication skills. •Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Radiologic equipment,

•Must have knowledge of PACS and RIS systems.

•Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

Responsibilities

1. Responsible for production of basic and intermediate, and complex quality radiographs while adapting procedures and technical factors in relation to patient conditions and history. Positions patients and determines technique to ensure that quality film standards are met. Demonstrates independent judgment and critical thinking skills, and problem solving skills. Accesses and handles selected medications and administers contrast.

2. Supervises the transport of patients to and from radiographic area as needed and consults with physicians or other healthcare providers regarding x-ray orders, performed procedures, and protocol to ensure that radiographic needs are met.

3. Responsible for understanding and adhering to radiation safety regulations and infection control standards established by PHHS and State and Federal agencies to ensure that Radiologic procedures are carried out safely and legally.

4. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of PHHS. Participates in departmental Performance Improvement Program and implements one improvement projects annually. Serves on at least one committee.

5. Responsible for equipment, supplies, and room preparation in order to ensure appropriate set-up before each procedure. Monitors and orders inventory. Promptly reports equipment malfunctions to Technical Coordinator - Radiology or the Biomedical Engineer. Serves as an active participant in the equipment and supply selection process.

6. Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development by attending seminars, reading professional journals, actively participating in local and national professional organizations, and maintaining ARRT certification and Texas State licensure. Attends mandatory PHHS training.

Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Must demonstrate competency in all areas of Diagnostic Radiology annually. Presents at least four PHHS continuing education seminars annually.

7. Serves as a patient advocate. Consistently demonstrates proactive customer service skills and compliance with PHHS House Standards.

8. Serves as a resource and role model to other staff, team members, and students. May serve as the Technologist in charge for supervising departmental operations.

9. Enters accurate patient exam data into the Radiology Information System as required by policy.

10. Initiates intravenous access and administers contrast media, while ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety, on the order of and under the direct supervision of a physician.

11. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Radiology area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
