Description

Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Skating Coordinator directs and coordinates instructional and competitive skating programs and the annual ice show for the Ice Rink. The Skating Coordinator will strive for the continuous improvement and growth of the skating school, to meet the interests of those who skate at Centennial Ice Arena.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Structure, initiate and supervise all skating programs of the Centennial Ice Arena Skating School including curriculum development and staffing.

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate adequate staff to operate areas of responsibility.

  • Coordinate skating class schedule and assist in coordinating ice schedules each session.

  • Supervise and assist instructors during all Learn to Skate class times.

  • Plan and coordinate skating exhibitions, ice show, skating competitions and special events.

  • Possess knowledge of skating skills, technique, and progressions essential to the development and growth of skaters’ abilities and progress.

  • Ensure instructors are appropriately implementing lesson plans, curriculum, class progress reports and attendance sheets.

  • Maintain equipment and inventory of all supplies and maintain safe ice skates by performing monthly inspections.

  • Assist with registration and reports for skating programs.

  • Assist with PDHP front desk procedures.

  • Coordinate and staff skating parties and special events.

  • Coordinate regularly scheduled in-service training of teaching staff.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with participants and the public in a professional and courteous manner through timely emails and phone calls with correct information.

  • Respond appropriately to participant and facility emergencies, including completion of accident/incident reports in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.

  • Work with the Marketing Department to promote programs and services through the website, program brochure, marketing materials, etc.

  • Assist with recommendations for the annual budget.

  • Works cooperatively with affiliate skating groups including HPFSC.

  • Keep accurate records of instructor certifications.

  • Act as manager on duty in absence of facility management staff.

  • Follow all Park District policies and procedures.

  • Performs other Park District-related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Schedules and directly supervises all skating instructors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

Qualifications


Education and/or Experience: Minimum of five years teaching experience and two years of administrative responsibilities in level-oriented skating programs, and a high school diploma. Must be well versed in basic skills of a variety of skating disciplines, including but not limited to, patch and freestyle skating, show skating, ice dancing, and off-ice techniques. Must have experience as a competitive skater. Must have knowledge of US Figure Skating's Learn to Skate USA curriculum.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software, Internet software and Word Processing software. 


Schedule: Schedule varies depending on season. Weekdays, afternoon and early evenings and Saturday mornings and special events.


Classification: Part-Time, 20-29 hours a week.
