Maintenance Technician IV – Special Systems

Location: Facilities & Construction

12 months, 8 hours/day

Grade 26, $20.31/hour

Interim Position

Start Date: Immediately

5-Year Clean MVD Driving Record Required

Purpose Statement

The job of Maintenance Technician IV – Special Systems is for the purpose/s of providing specific responsibility for maintaining Fire Alarm and/or Security Systems including repair and/or replacement; installing, repairing, maintaining, upgrading.

This job reports directly to the Tech V Lead Man, and/or the Facilities Supervisor.

Essential Functions

Reads blue prints, schematics, drawings of both Fire Alarm and Security systems for the purpose of maintaining these systems, including repair when necessary; and efficient installation of new, or upgraded systems when required.

Coordinates with assigned lead and/or supervisor and other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.

Diagnoses causes of Fire Alarm and/or Security systems problems or failures for the purpose of immediate repair/corrections whenever possible.

Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of making informed decisions, taking appropriate action, and or complying with AHJ over Fire Alarm systems and/or complying with District Security standards.

Maintains and/or installs Fire Alarm systems or Security systems components for the purpose of having a complete working Fire Alarm and/or Security system 24 hours daily, 7 days per week.

Monitors Fire Alarm systems or Security systems and all components for the purpose of evaluating the condition of these systems, identifying necessary repairs, recommending preventative maintenance.

Oversees other Maintenance Technician(s) for the purpose of maintaining and/or upgrading Fire Alarm and Security systems.

Performs routine and preventative maintenance for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing operation of Fire Alarm and/or Security systems.

Prepares/maintains written materials for the purpose of documenting Fire Alarm and/or Security systems repair and/or maintenance issues.

Repairs or replaces Fire Alarm system and Security system components for the purpose of providing continuous service of these two systems District wide. (same as Maintains and/or installs above)

Requests components, equipment, supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory, ensuring availability of items required to complete all repairs/installations.

Responds to emergency situations during, and at times after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate Fire Alarm and/or Security concerns.

Other Functions

Participates in meeting, workshops, training and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and or gathering information required to perform job duties/functions.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of this work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform related tasks to this field of Fire Alarm and Security. There is a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions/requirements. Specific sill based competencies required to perform the functions of this
job include, but are not limited to: basic computer skills; basic knowledge of a class A fire alarm system; basic knowledge of a security access system; operating tools/equipment utilized in the install/repair of Fire Alarm and Security systems; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintain accurate records; adhering to Fire Codes, District Security policy, safety policies, and safe schools/support sites practices.

KNOWLEDGE is required to read technical information; compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions as related to Fire/Security; analyze situations to define issues and reach conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform functions of the job include but are not limited to: methods, techniques, materials, components, tools used in installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, reading and following blueprints/schematics.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and or meeting related to the two field; Fire Alarm and Security systems; gather information from both Fire Alarm and Security panels which will facilitate diagnostic and corrective procedures. Flexibility is required to work with others; with a wide diversity of individuals, sharing similar types of data. Utilize a wide variety of job related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with fire/security data frequently require independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving on this equipment can range from moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of this job include:
adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with others; meeting deadlines and schedules: working as part of a team at times; working independently at others; at time with interruptions due to ever changing priorities.

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working at times under direct supervision using standardized routines; at time working alone; providing information and/or advising others; utilizing of some resources or information from other work units can often be required to perform the job’s functions. There is the possibility of significantly impacting the District’s services.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and or pulling, at times climbing/balancing, stooping, kneeling crouching, and or crawling. Fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, standing. The job is performed under varying temperatures with conditions of exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Experience: Job related experience within this specialized field is required.
Education:
Targeted, job related education with study related to the field of Fire Alarm and/or Security.
