Position Overview: We are seeking a experienced Senior Program Manager with a background in shipbuilding and defense to oversee large-scale, multi-year programs within our client's organization. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in program/project management, particularly in DoD/Navy programs, government technical management, or industry business management. Military service or experience in surface combatants is highly desirable. The Senior Program Manager will be responsible for defining, organizing, and directing the overall program, including formulating technical approaches, negotiating resources, establishing milestones, and controlling budgets and costs. Exceptional communication skills are essential for interfacing with senior executives, including SES/Flag level personnel, and navigating DoD/DoN procedures and policies, particularly the DoD 5000 process.
Responsibilities: - Lead and oversee large-scale, multi-year programs in shipbuilding and defense, dividing them into manageable sub-programs/tasks.
- Define the overall program scope, organization, and direction of short and long-range plans.
- Formulate, guide, and direct the technical approach of the program.
- Negotiate with activity and agency personnel for necessary resources.
- Establish and control technical milestones, schedules, budgets, and costs.
- Communicate effectively with senior executives, including SES/Flag level personnel.
- Navigate and ensure compliance with DoD/DoN procedures and policies, particularly the DoD 5000 process.
- Provide leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams to ensure program success.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure program objectives are met.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment conducive to achieving program goals.
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in program/project management, with a focus on shipbuilding and defense programs.
- Preferred 20 years of DoD/Navy program management, Government technical management, or Industry business management experience.
- Experience communicating with SES/Flag level personnel
- DoD/DoN procedures and Policies (DoD 5000 process) Military service/experience in surface combatants
- Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale programs from conception to completion.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface with SES/Flag level personnel.
- Leadership experience with cross-functional teams and the ability to foster a collaborative work environment.
- Military service or experience in surface combatants is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or DAU Level III Program Management required
