What You'll Do
  • Manage the Production Support, Compliance & Radiological Training section of the Radiation Safety Department primarily providing direct oversight and management of radiation safety processes and practices as well as field activities must be maintained. Assures a qualified and competent staff.
  • Assigns work and tasks to subordinates by specifying task parameters, i.e. quality, quantity, resources and expected completion time, Accountable for all aided-direct-output and delegated-direct-output of subordinates.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper alignment of subordinate roles through personal effectiveness appraisals and the effective delegation of work through the supervision and evaluation of proposed role changes that will facilitate accomplishment of assigned work, Provides performance accounting and feedback, Responsible for the development of individuals in role to ensure technical competence and a thorough understanding of safety, quality and security aspects of the job by formulating tasks that are within an appropriate range of complexity and by scheduling individuals for additional training when appropriate.

  • Responsible for developing plans to achieve tasks and goals and adhering to these plans in establishing the limits within which the subordinates' tasks must be accomplished.
  • Responsible for ensuring an adequate talent pool base among subordinates and evaluating/developing the capabilities of individuals.
  • Provides advice and recommendations concerning the impact, feasibility, and cost of proposed programs, Estimates manpower needs and schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
  • Establishes schedules, makes policy interpretations, completes budget reports, reviews/coordinates subordinates output, and manages staff assignments to meet the Plant's goals and objectives, This may involve resolution of both personnel and technical problems within his/her jurisdiction/authority.
  • Initiates the removal of a subordinate from working under his/her authority and may also, based on his/her judgment, make recommendations to senior management, to upgrade, downgrade, promote, or demote employees under his/her supervision.
  • Accountable for all direct output assigned and for providing direct output support to his/her manager.
  • Responsible for maintaining a thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate and Plant rules, regulations and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for application of established personnel and operating policies and programs, including Union Agreements, employee concerns, discipline processes, and safety, health and security standards.
  • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
  • Ensures worker involvement in work planning, and determination of hazards and control in accordance with ISM principals, Respects a workers right to stop work when they feel their personal safety is jeopardized and take responsibility to resolve the concern in a timely manner.
  • Attends and or conducts required safety meetings and training.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience. Minimum 3 years of relevant supervisory/ management experience.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
Preferred Job Requirements
  • This position requires comprehensive knowledge of Radiation Safety principles and fundamentals and familiarity with Federal laws and regulations, Emphasis is 10 CFR 835.
  • Ability to recognize, identify and resolve compliance issues, and work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to organize, plan, lead, and execute management responsibilities such as those needed for line operations.
  • Ability to perform duties while exercising initiative, independent judgment, and discretion under general supervision.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate through the oral and written word and presentations.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, state of Texas and DOE orders, rules, and regulations relating to Radiation Safety and compliance with Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
