Description
As an MRI technologist, you are asked to operate MRI scanners and to ensure that the procedure produces quality images and information for the health care professional to make an accurate diagnosis. Utilize your medical knowledge by interviewing patients, explaining the procedure and placing the patient in the appropriate spot on the table. Technologists are also organized, detail-oriented individuals who are familiar with the anatomical area that is being scanned and the patient’s history.
Essential Functions
• Follows ACR practice guidelines and safety standards for MRI.
• Performs MRI procedures as ordered achieving a high level of quality and timeliness
• Select appropriate imaging techniques and protocols to complete the exam.
• Receive patients, explains method of examination, and positions patient, performs IV puncture, and administers IV contrast agent when indicated.
• Independently performs and completes routine examinations.
• Meet the needs of the patient, family and multi-disciplinary team through effective communication, coordination and documentation ensuring safety, care, courtesy and efficiency.
• Actively participates in quality initiatives to ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction, highest level of patient care and workflow efficiencies.
• Escorts patients to treatment room and assists with dressings as necessary
• Completes all paperwork necessary to ensure timely delivery of MRI services
• Explains MRI procedures to address patient concerns and questions
• Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff
• Completes related paperwork and obtains interpretation by radiologist
• Conducts quality control measures to monitor machine performance and reports all malfunctions and/or need for adjustments to the site manager.
• Assists patients with positioning on exam table and may be required to assist patients to prevent falls.
• Prepares equipment and supplies.
• Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including re-positioning patient and repeating procedure if necessary.
• Enters, transmits and reports scan results.
• Might need to travel to other Panorama offices as necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Other:
• Assists in maintaining a neat and sanitary workplace at all times.
• Uses only equipment trained to use and operates all equipment in a safe manner.
Knowledge/Skills Abilities Required
• Previous experience in orthopedic MRI preferred
• ARRT® Required with MRI Certification
• Graduation from an accredited program with current certification
• BLS certified
• Requires thorough knowledge and understanding of the principals and physics of magnetic resonance imaging.
• Knowledge of pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, surgical procedures as well as treatment modalities.
• Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgement
• Excellent patient care and computer skills.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA requirements.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action when needed.
• Anticipate ways to improve patient care and experience.
• Assists in the evaluation, development and effectiveness of systems and protocols.
• Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations and certifications.
• Ability to work with little supervision
• Ability to follow ACR recommendations and implement them for Panorama’s MRI sites
