GOLF COURSE MECHANIC APPRENTICE at Destination Geneva National GENERAL DESCRIPTIONJoin the fun, fast-paced team at Destination Geneva National, home to 54 holes of legendary golf designed by icons Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Lee Trevino. As a Golf Course Mechanic Apprentice, you will learn how to inspect golf course equipment, perform basic repairs, order parts, and take inventory. Here is your opportunity to work at a beautiful resort alongside experienced mechanics and Grounds staff who will become valuable mentors. To be successful as a golf course mechanic apprentice, you should be good with your hands and possess strong attention to detail, which is crucial for identifying issues with equipment and ensuring that repairs are completed accurately and efficiently. Ultimately, a top-notch mechanic apprentice understands mechanical principles. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPrimary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Communicate any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment with the Mechanics, Director of Golf Course Maintenance, Superintendents, and Assistant Superintendents. Regularly inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of golf course maintenance equipment.Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.Set up and modify new equipment as needed.Repair and adjust engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy- and light-mowing equipment.Keep maintenance equipment fueled, oiled, and inspected. Perform related tasks as required.Maintain a clean shop.Keep accurate equipment maintenance records.Follow instructions given by Mechanics, Director of Grounds, and Golf Course Superintendents.REQUIREMENTSCurrently enrolled in or have completed coursework in mechanics, small engine repair, and/or a related field. Can be part of a high school or tech school program in the process of earning a degree/certificate.Must have a valid driver's license and be familiar with both manual and automatic transmission types.Basic understanding of mechanical principles and aptitude for troubleshooting and repairing equipment commonly used in golf course maintenance, such as lawn mowers, utility vehicles, irrigation systems, and small engines.Good analytical skills and the capacity to analyze problems, develop solutions, and implement repairs independently or collaboratively as part of a team.Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, equipment, and maintenance practices as they evolve within the industry.Keen understanding and adherence to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and using equipment safely.Excellent customer service and communication skills.Physical fitness and stamina to stoop, crawl, work while laying down, and lift heavy machinery.Ability to move heavy objects up to 50 pounds or more.Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.Ability to work weekends and holidays.
