Palm Beach Atlantic University is Hiring an Area Coordinator Near Beach, FL

SUMMARY:Provides leadership for the administrative, supervisory, programming, and counseling functions in the residence hall setting. The Area Coordinator is responsible to create a strong Christian living-learning community that is conducive to the holistic development of students and supports the mission of Palm Beach Atlantic University, the Student Development Division, and the Residence Life Department.


RESPONSIBILITES:

Supervisory:

  • Serve as the primary contact between the university, students and parents in regards to students’ on-campus living experience.
  • Assist with the evaluation and assessments of Residence Life services and programs.
  • Keep the Dean of Students and Assistant Director of Residence Life informed of daily activities, problems and emergencies that affect residents.
  • Maintain current and accurate files on residents.
  • Prepare reports as requested including, but not limited to weekly work reports, monthly reports, statistical data, discipline records, and survey results.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention efforts for the university as assigned.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Aids with crisis management, conflict resolution, and mediation for students as needed.

Student Assistance

  • Encourage and monitor residents in maintaining their decorum and conduct based on the Community Values System as stated in the Navigator and Residence Life Handbook.
  • Investigate infractions of the Community Values System and impose disciplinary sanctions when necessary or refer to a higher official.
  • Track and document student violations and university response through appropriate accountability software.

Programming

  • Develop relationships with residents and encourage their holistic development through hall-wide educational and social programming, incorporating all components of the Student Development Wellness Model.
  • Plan, develop, implement, market, and evaluate educational and social programs. Promote programing efforts (emails, texts, posters, social media, etc).
  • Co-program or conduct programs on student wellness issues.
  • Coordinates and supervises the programming efforts of their hall and work in collaboration with other Residence Life Office programing objectives.
  • Encourage student involvement in the Student Development Division co-programming efforts, such as Intramurals, Sailfish Cup, Student Activities, Welcome Week and Welcome Weekend, and Workship.
  • Provide students with current University information related to programs, events and initiatives.

Housing Management

  • Assist with housing selection and keep students informed and educating about participating in the process.
  • Supports retention efforts of residential students.
  • Oversees and manages the daily on-going operations (inspection, reporting, and communication) of the residential facilities in collaboration with National.
  • Monitors progress of maintenance projects/remediations with the residence halls.
  • Coordinates year-round housing turnover and cleanings between semesters.
  • Communicates emergency management housing plans to residents, per the Emergency Management Team.
  • Maintain care and safety of university keys assigned to you or the building(s) you oversee.
  • Communicate and monitor housekeeping and maintenance needs in the residence hall.
  • Inspect and walk through the residence hall(s), monitor repairs and cleaning, and prepare the hall for the opening and closing of the academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate excellent computer skills including word processing, spread sheets, data bases, desktop publishing, and Web page design.
  • Superior English language and writing skills, communication skills, and speaking ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues. Possess public speaking ability to communicate to a large group setting with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Possess basic mathematical skills, including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, computations, ratios, and statistics.
  • Possess a high level of reasoning ability, such as problem solving, interpreting instructions and data, and dealing with unknown variables within a Biblical worldview.
  • The position requires the individual to be able to respond immediately to handle emergencies that could occur 24 hours/day for 7 days/week (including holidays).
  • Physical ability is critical to respond to emergencies anywhere on campus. Some of our residence halls contain 2 stories and do not have access by elevator.
  • Manifests sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities; ability to work strategically by prioritizing competing demands.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the concerns and needs of a diverse student population.
  • Shows a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and align across a wide variety of people.
  • Gives attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree Required.
  • Master’s degree Preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience working closely with college students
