The incumbent for this position will perform a wide variety of duties to support the mission of the PAGOSA AREA WATER & SANITATION DISTRICT, the main function of which is operations and maintenance of the sewer lift stations and management of video inspections of sewer lines. This position will also perform maintenance and operation of the sewer vacuum truck and jet trailer equipment. Other maintenance functions for the District facilities may include cleaning manholes, lift stations, clarifiers and general wastewater treatment plant maintenance as well as water and wastewater line repairs. This position will also maintain and operate the District's Prohibitive Discharge Grease Program with administrative support from Operations and Office staff.
Position will be required to work overtime, including nights, weekends, holidays and/or rotating on-call shifts and be familiar with all District facilities including water plants, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, lift stations and distribution and collection lines.
This job requires the performance of physically demanding tasks. Employee must be able to stoop, twist , turn, bend, squat, sit and stand for long periods of time; lift items up to 50 pounds; climb to heights of 25 feet; and enter into confined spaces.
Position will be required to perform work that may involve exposure to all weather conditions typical of the outside environment ; hazardous chemicals; electrical and mechanical hazards; respiratory hazards; noise hazards; eye/face hazards; uneven terrain/walking hazards; blood-born pathogen biohazards; water/wastewater hazards such as scum; screenings, grit and sludge.
Pick-up truck, tools, work boots, work uniforms and laundering of uniforms are provided by the District for each operator along with other safety equipment that may be required.
This position prefers a Collections System Operator license issued by the Colorado Water and Wastewater Facility Operators Certification Board, or the ability to obtain same by reciprocity.
In addition to the license requirements mentioned above, timely advancement through the State Operator Certification Program in other areas adds to the position's knowledge and responsibility.
Hold a valid Colorado Driver's License.
Experience performing equipment maintenance and/or involvement with operational activities as an intern at a wastewater treatment plant.
Two years of increasing responsible experience working in the operation and/or maintenance of a collections facility.
Computer skills that include word processing and spreadsheet programs.
